*Anderson Cooper took on Arizona state senator Al Melvin Monday night over the state's proposed legislation to allow businesses to exercise their religious freedom to discriminate against LGBT citizens. Melvin insisted, "It's nothing more and nothing less than protecting religious freedom in our state." Cooper noted how Arizona doesn't expressly prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and grilled Melvin on why, then, they would need to reaffirm a right that isn't under threat in the state in the first place...*

Oprah says Atheists in Awe Believe in God
So talk show host Oprah Winfrey said that atheists aren't really atheists if they are in "awe" with the universe, and therefore they believe in God. How anyone could misrepresent our position like this is beyond me, let alone a so-called "icon" loved by America. Further, Oprah is willing to go low by suggesting that perhaps a dead figure was wrong on the afterlife. Maybe this is why most rational folks are skeptical of popular media, along with how the media portrays atheists.

"I think the Founders weren't wary enough of democracy," says David Harsanyi, senior editor at The Federalist and a nationally syndicated columnist. "I think there are bigger problems with it."
Harsanyi sat down with Reason TV's Nick Gillespie to discuss his new book, The People Have Spoken and They Are Wrong: The Case Against Democracy, why we put too much weight on voting, and why praising democracy is just celebrating mob rule.
"Democracy's just a process that reflects the morals and ethics of the people who vote," he said. "It doesn't guarantee you freedom—just check out the Gaza Strip or Egypt or anywhere else."

DNA vs The Book of Mormon
For more than 170 years, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has declared the Book of Mormon to be a scriptural and literal history. Subtitled "Another Testament of Jesus Christ," it recounts the story story of an Israelite family who immigrated to and fully populated the American continents. Jesus, after His death and resurrection, is said to have visited this once-great Israelite civilization existing in the Americas.
The Book of Mormon teaches that these Israelites are the principal ancestors of modern-day Native Americans. New discoveries in DNA research currently allow scientists to test this historical claim. Thousands of Native Americans from more than 150 tribes have been tested to determine their ancestry.

A recent Reason-Rupe poll found that when it comes to their personal info, more Americans trust even the National Security Agency or the Internal Revenue Service over Google or Facebook.
Mozilla's Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs, Denelle Dixon-Thayer, says "data hygiene" should be something every new or established tech company should be thinking about.
"Trust is our currency," said Thayer to Reason TV at the 2014 South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas. "If we don't have the trust of our users then we actually aren't going to be successful as a company."
Dixon-Thayer says big data companies need to be upfront with users about who has access to their data, how long their data is stored, and do what they can to inform users of government data requests.
"With data, may come a reward, but also a substantial risk," says Dixon-Thayer, who points out that if you keep information for a long time your company becomes open to subpoenas and NSA requests.
"It's just thinking about what that data can do for you and when does it lose its value to you," says Dixon-Thayer
In October 2013, Mozilla endorsed the USA FREEDOM Act, which would have amended the PATRIOT Act and ended dragnet collection of phone data while providing more oversight of surveillance programs and the FISA court. The bill is pending in the house judiciary committee.

Without light, we wouldn't be able to see. It would be like living in a room with no windows, doors, or lamps. There's an old saying, "We don't see things; we see light bouncing off of things." We see things, and colors, when light bounces off things and into our eyes. White light, like the light from the Sun, is made up of all the different colors of light blended together. When white light hits something white, almost all of the light bounces into our eyes, and we see the color white.
Things are different colors because some light bounces off and other light gets absorbed.
An orange is orange because it absorbs all different colors of light except orange light.
Grass is green because it absorbs all different colors of light except green light.

The 2nd High Court Challenge to the validity of the funding model for the National Schools Chaplaincy Program is about to be heard.
Father of 6, Ronnie Williams, had the courage to challenge this transparent funding dispersal to religious groups in the High Court of Australia and won. The Federal Government then hastily passed legislation to continue the funding. This is now the subject of the 2nd High Court Challenge.

In today's Fundamentalist Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) Church, many young men have been thrown out of their homes because of an edict allowing polygamist church elders to monopolize all the eligible young girls. These "lost boys," few of whom have even an 8th-grade education, must adjust to a drastically different America than the one they grew up in. We travel to Utah to meet some of these young men and listen to their harrowing stories.
Segment 2: The Fat Farms if Mauritania
Ironically, in one of the world's poorest countries, obesity is a sign of beauty and wealth. In the West African country of Mauritania, parents send their daughters to rural fattening camps, where they are force-fed over 15,000 calories a day in camel milk, figs, oiled breadcrumbs and couscous. VICE sends its skinniest correspondent to one of these camps to examine the impact of force-feeding on young women in a society that loves them so plump.

Creationists habitually indulge in pseudoscience, effectively acting as intellectually corrosive agents that detract from our ability to pursue progress. Ironically, the very same science that they misuse and abuse are the ones that allow them and the rest of us to maintain happy, healthy lives. The very same technology that they take for granted, and even use to spread their vile filth, is responsible for their lives of opulence and opportunity- opportunity that many of them actively squander, which is something that they try to have the rest of us do. Also ironic is that they do this out of a misplaced sense of righteousness, when in fact their actions have always been, at least in large part, responsible for the retardation of knowledge and progress in society.
No example, in my opinion, serves better than the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics at showcasing just how intellectually bankrupt these individuals are. They lack not only a cursory education in the matters on which they feel qualified to pontificate, but integrity as well, because no matter how many times one corrects a creationist's mistakes, it will continue to parrot the same old lies and fallacies as it always has. Indeed, by the time they finish watching this video, creationists will probably dismiss it out of hand and continue using the 2nd Law nonargument even though they know it's wrong. That's because the goal of creationism isn't to accumulate knowledge- it's to affirm a preexisting bias regardless of how many facts stand in the way. But hey, defending the words of the book of our Lord is always a moral thing to do, right? Wrong.
Ludwig Boltzmann was a religious man, and he also greatly admired Darwin and his work. Ironically, the very man who derived the form of the law that creationists use to attack evolution, accepted evolutionary theory! Creationists, this man who you would dismiss as "not a TRUE Christian" for accepting reality for what it is and not what his primitive texts demanded it to be has done more for humanity than any of you ever could.
A note about the ending- someone is likely to quite rightly point out that Boltzmann wasn't primarily responsible for the development of modern technology, but there is no denying that his role was indispensable. That being said, I'm aware that a great collection of other individuals are also hugely responsible for the derivations of different forms of entropy and the other theoretical frameworks that makes our technology possible, but seeing as Boltzmann was particularly pertinent to this video and its messages, I decided to focus mainly on him.

Bill Maher Trashes the Bible Noah Story and Psychotic Mass Murderer God
March 14, 2014 - On Friday evening, Bill Maher's "New Rules" segment concluded with a lengthy tirade against the arbitrary rules and customs set forth in the Bible, as well as some of the more unbelievable details religious folks still believe to be literally true. Maher began the monologue by declaring that America is "stupid" because 60 percent of the country reportedly believes the tale of Noah's ark is literally true. He went on to slam the film Noah as "floating giraffe crap," but said it "must be doing something right" since it's been condemned by both Muslims and Christians. And the fact that it might lose a lot of studio money, he joked, "may put it in hot water with the Jews too."

The bible goes from verse 23, in which God plans to kill the first born of Egypt, to verse 24, in which God is about to kill Moses. He is saved when his wife circumcises his son and then assaults Moses with the bloody foreskin (Exodus 4:24-25)

The beginning of everything
Scientists from the Centre for Astrophysics have found evidence of gravitational waves created mere moments after the dawn of the Universe. These waves were created in a period of rapid expansion called cosmic inflation. This new evidence could prove the definitive confirmation of the inflation theory. It seems that finally, scientists can claim to understand the goings on at the beginning of everything.

Beautiful Response to an Ugly Offer from a Known Bigot
"The Catholic League's Bill Donohue, pit bull of the Catholic Church in America and a man who now seems completely out of touch with his own pope, is furious that Guinness beer opted for diversity rather than bigotry when the company decided to pull out as a sponsor of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City this year. Donohue has now called for a Catholic boycott of Guinness beer (we'll get to that in a minute), and yesterday he also applied to the NYC Pride march committee to march this June in the parade under a banner that reads, "Straight Is Great," and the committee has agreed to let him march.
I say: Bring it on! Let's let Bill Donohue march in the parade and show that we are better than those troglodytes who run the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York, increasingly out of touch with the world. Of course, the Pride parade is about LGBT pride, so perhaps Donohue has to tweak that banner a bit to say, "Straights Who Support Gays Are Great," or "Catholics Who Support Gays Are Great." After all, the LGBT people who want to march in the St. Patrick's Day Parade don't want to march under a banner that says, "Gay Is Great." Or should color be acknowledged, embraced and even celebrated by those who accept the evolutionary explanation of our origins (aka: we are all Africans)?
Tonight features a panel of very special guests: Jamila Bey: Director of Commnications for the Secular Student Alliance, Alix Jules, President of Black Nonbelievers of Dallas, and Bridgette Gaudette, Executive Director of the Florida Humanist Association. The show will respectfully approach a subject that is controversial, even considered taboo, and will hopefully provide education and resources for atheists of all colors and cultures.

*Catholic League President Bill Donohue claimed he was forced to back out of his plan to participate in the New York City LGBT Pride parade because the event's organizers wanted to force him into "gay training." Noah's Flood: God's Perfect Injustice
With the movie "Noah" hitting the theaters this weekend I decided to talk about the sick and twisted story of Noah's ark and the supposed great flood of Genesis. Also, I introduce "Dawkins" the dog, the newest member to our family.
The Genesis account of Noah's ark and the great flood has to be the most horrendous account of stark wholesale slaughter of countless unborn babies, infants, toddlers, children, women, men and the elderly, ever told. And yet, millions will flock to the movie as a herd of psychopathic Jason bates lauding the murder of mankind. Is there anything more twisted and sick than this? I think not.
