Am I Normal? Spirituality documentary

Reports suggest fewer people in Britain today follow a religion than ever before. Yet many still cling to the idea of life after death, spirits and the supernatural. Why are some often judged as true believers and others as religious nuts? And what happens when the worlds of hard scientific fact and pure faith collide? In this documentary, clinical psychologist Dr Tanya Byron explores what some consider as the fine line between religious devotion and psychiatric disorder. She sees what happens when rational scientists try to analyse religious phenomena like Speaking in Tongues and Hearing Voices, and considers the beliefs of faith healers who claim miracles happen.

Time: 60 min.

Enemies of Reason - Slaves to Superstition

Prof Richard Dawkins tackles the epidemic of irrational, superstitious thinking which is blotting the light of logic and evidence. After garnering tips on psychics' entirely earthly trade secrets from the illusionist Derren Brown, Dawkins attends a seance and confronts the medium.

Time and again, the interviewees appeal to personal revelation or second-hand anecdote to justify their belief.

An episode about the tales in the Bible by the History Channel.

I believe in Plexiglas

The Associated Press brings a story about a US soldier being harast for not believing in a imaginary god.

It eventually came out in Iraq in 2007, when he was in a firefight. Hall was a gunner on a Humvee, which took several bullets in its protective shield. Afterward, his commander asked whether he believed in God, Hall said.

"I said, 'No, but I believe in Plexiglas,' " Hall said. "I've never believed I was going to a happy place. You get one life. When I die, I'm worm food."

Teaching Creationism in Schools

Creationists all over the country are trying to push creationism into schools and package it as science under the guise of Intelligent Design. The National Center for Science Education is here to put out those fires and keep religion out of our public school science classrooms.

We are here to call out Ben Stein and his ludicrous ideas that are the spotlight of his new movie Expelled, about Intelligent Design. Expelled is a manipulation of lies that repackages religious creationism as Intelligent Design and teaches it as science in public schools. We must stand up to keep religion out of our public schools' science education.

War on atheism. God really, really, really cares about us

Faith Matters: the Denver Museum of Nature and Science

Creationists claim that science and research have it wrong. Two young earth creationists educate their tour group from the biblical point of view, a view that doesn’t need to be explained by science. The museum does contain dinosaur fossils, but tour guides present them as either remnants of the Great Flood or pure decoration.

ABC Nightline films portions of a creationist tour through the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and sits down with two of the tour guides as well as the museum’s curator. Brian Rooney reports.

According To The Creationist tour guides in the video above…

1. About 7 generations of people lived for about 800 years, but they ‘could be wrong’. If they’re not, that’s 5,600 years of 800-year old life spans. According to creationists, the earth is only 6,000 to 10,000 years old. Doesn’t leave much time for recorded history, does it?

2. There is an exhibit explaining the process of radio and carbon dating, but it’s not part of the tour. “We can’t cover everything” claims one tour guide. He goes on to claim that all dating methods are based on assumptions.

3. Science that doesn’t support their faith is not good science

4. Many people on the tour seek reinforcement for what they already believe. Ok, that one’s obvious.

The museum’s curator believes in evolution and studies fossils for a living (understandably). He doesn’t agree with the creationist tours, but he tolerates them.

Why is the Bible full of Contradictions?

This Chanel 4 documentary explores questions at the heart of the Christian faith in a fair open-minded fashion. It is NOT meant to be inflamatory but informative. The truth one will see is the Bible is NOT what it is thought to be.

USA lost in religion

A typical result came from the Zogby Poll of January 21, 2008, indicating that 50% of voters rule out supporting “a presidential candidate who doesn’t believe in God”; only 20% said they could definitely vote for such a contender. Meanwhile, an overwhelming majority of 78% (86% of women and 67% of men) say they take a “positive view” of candidates citing Scripture when discussing political problems.
