James Randi Exposes the TRICKERY of Making People 'Believe' (Secrets of the Psychics)

Are psychics able to give information as to Madeleine McCann's whereabouts or are they taking advantage of people's 'need' to believe?

Fascinating look at how people can be convinced of a 'truth', but James Randi shows how TRICKERY can be used to make people 'believe'.

See James Randi expose Peter Popoff who claimed to 'cure' people and had psychic ability to know the details of their condition. Randi, using a scanner shows that his wife was telling him the details on a wireless earpiece.

Uri Geller was unable to perform his abilities (famous for bending spoons) on 'The Tonight Show' after Johnny Carson enlisted James Randi to provide the objects and drawings. Randi shows how Uri Geller performed these 'miracles' when in control of the objects used.

See how Horoscopes are interpreted.

James Randi has offered $1,000,000 to anyone willing to 'prove' their ability by undergoing controlled tests. So far no-one has taken him up on his offer!

Autism: The Wall That Knows No Limits

Autism is a mental disability that impairs a person's central nervous system and how it operates, particularly in sensory awareness. In effect, autism impairs a person's social awareness and communication skills.

However, it's also a complex disorder, meaning no two cases are alike, and because it can't be physically detected, is often ignored by unaffected humans. Although boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism, it knows no social or ethnic boundaries.

What was originally a project for my electronic art class became my first television program giving viewers an overview on what autism is, how it affects people, how other people respond, and the attitude taken towards it.

I hope this program enlightens you on one of the most prominent disabilities today.

Burzynski Clinic: The Merola-Friendly Version

Poor Eric Merola. He objected to my "Fair Use" of a small low-res image of his movie poster. He used the legal thuggery tactic of submitting a false DMCA in order to force me to give him my home address so that I can be the subject of legal harassment and intimidation by his lawyers and media thugs.

Then, when I posted a short video pointing out the false DMCA and posting his public email address... he had it flagged for "Scams and Spam". Poor Eric. A guy can't use perjury to silence his critics without a lot of headache anymore. At last count, there were over 80 copies of this "unscrubbed" video on YouTube. My thanks to those who deemed that necessary.

To ease his troubled mind, I've removed any and all references to anything he ever worked on in this "scrubbed" version of my previous video. I dare him to take this one down. Go on, Eric... I'm game if you are. Let's dance.

Grief Beyond Belief

The subject of grief in regards to personal loss has been covered before in one of our most popular shows, but as the topic resonates with so many, we felt it warranted another show.

When a loved one dies, there is no promise of a heavenly reunion for the non-believer. The pulpit pastors preach of pearly gates, mansions and angel song, yet the atheist finds no comfort in such fantasies.

In this episode, we talk about "Grief Beyond Belief," the show title named after an organization providing support for the grieving. We speak to the founder of Grief Beyond Belief, Rebecca Hensler, about healthy recovery from the worst of times.

Attacked Ex-Bangladeshi Atheist Blogger Sharif Ahmed Speaks Out

Ex-Bangladeshi Blogger Sharif Ahmed suffered attack, torture, religious psychological training and was eventually nearly hung to death because of his atheism. He escaped to Canada as a refuge fearing for his life. Sharif Ahmed joins Justin Trottier for an exclusive interview on Think Again! TV to discuss his story and the plight of atheists in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has recently been at the center of a human rights crisis as authorities have detained several prominent bloggers for "hurting religious sentiments," followed by the arrest of a newspaper editor who printed quotations from the targeted bloggers, and two more young people for making "derogatory remarks" about Islam on Facebook. Tens of thousands of people have rallied in the country's capital to demand more arrests, tougher blasphemy laws, and have threatened violence if their demands are not met by April 25.

An international coalition of atheist and humanist organizations, led by the Center for Inquiry and our partners the International Humanist and Ethical Union and American Atheists, will protest the arrest and persecution of atheist bloggers and other dissenters in Bangladesh with demonstrations in New York, Washington, London, Ottawa, and other cities around the world on Thursday, April 25.

These global demonstrations will be unprecedented for the freethought movement, as secularists around the world express their solidarity with those jailed for speaking their minds about religion. Protesters will draw the world's attention to the plight of those persecuted for exercising their rights to freedom of belief and expression, and attempt to spur the international community to take action and compel the government of Bangladesh to change course. Up-to-date information on protest events can be found at bit.ly/defenddissent.

The Sayings of Confucius (audiobook)

The Sayings of Confucius - FULL AudioBook | Greatest Audio Books

Confucianism is an ethical and philosophical system developed from the teachings of the Chinese philosopher Confucius (孔夫子 Kǒng Fūzǐ, or K'ung-fu-tzu, lit. "Master Kong", 551--479 BC). Confucianism originated as an "ethical-sociopolitical teaching" during the Spring and Autumn Period, but later developed metaphysical and cosmological elements in the Han Dynasty. Following the abandonment of Legalism in China after the Qin Dynasty, Confucianism became the official state ideology of the Han. The disintegration of the Han in the second century C.E. opened the way for the spiritual and otherworldly doctrines of Buddhism and Daoism to dominate intellectual life and to become the ruling doctrines during the Tang dynasty. In the late Tang, Confucianism absorbed many of these challenging aspects and was reformulated Neo-Confucianism. This reinvigorated form was adopted as the basis of the imperial exams and the core philosophy of the scholar official class in the Song dynasty. Neo-Confucianism turned into sometimes rigid orthodoxy over the following centuries. In popular practice, however, the three doctrines of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism were often melded together. The abolition of the examination system in 1905 marked the end of official Confucianism. The New Culture intellectuals of the early twentieth century blamed Confucianism for China's weaknesses. They searched for imported doctrines to replace it, such as the "Three Principles of the People" with the establishment of the Republic of China, and then Communism under the People's Republic of China. In the late twentieth century, Confucianism was credited with the rise of the East Asian economy and revived both in the People's Republic and abroad.

The core of Confucianism is humanism, or what the philosopher Herbert Fingarette calls "the secular as sacred." The focus of spiritual concern is this world and the family, not the gods and not the afterlife. Confucianism broadly speaking does not exalt faithfulness to divine will or higher law. This stance rests on the belief that human beings are teachable, improvable and perfectible through personal and communal endeavor especially self-cultivation and self-creation. Confucian thought focuses on the cultivation of virtue and maintenance of ethics, the most basic of which are ren, yi, and li. Ren is an obligation of altruism and humaneness for other individuals within a community, yi is the upholding of righteousness and the moral disposition to do good, and li is a system of norms and propriety that determines how a person should properly act within a community. Confucianism holds that one should give up one's life, if necessary, either passively or actively, for the sake of upholding the cardinal moral values of ren and yi.

Cultures and countries strongly influenced by Confucianism include mainland China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Vietnam, as well as various territories settled predominantly by Chinese people, such as Singapore. Although Confucian ideas prevail in these areas, few people identify themselves as Confucian, and instead see Confucian ethics as a complementary guideline for other ideologies and beliefs, including democracy, Marxism, capitalism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism.

World Religions: Confucianism

Confucianism is a way of life taught by Confucius in the 6th--5th century BC. Sometimes viewed as a philosophy, sometimes as a religion, Confucianism is perhaps best understood as an all-encompassing humanism that neither denies nor slights Heaven.

Confucianism has been followed by the Chinese for more than two millennia. It has deeply influenced spiritual and political life in China; its influence has also extended to Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. East Asians may profess themselves to be Shintoists, Taoists, Buddhists, Muslims, or Christians - but seldom do they cease to be Confucians.

Stephen Prothero, the New York Times bestselling author of Religious Literacy, makes a fresh and provocative argument that, contrary to popular understanding, all religions are not simply different paths to the same end... and why this matters greatly for us.

What is GOD? What is BUDDHA? - Tsem Rinpoche

It's important to understand what our religious directions are. What we should expect out of religion and what we should be expected to do if we accept a religion.

There is nothing judgemental here or I am making criterias, but simply expressing how I feel we should apply our religious faiths for the benefit of ourselves, people around us and our planet. It is said religion can create heaven or hell within our world by some, but I think it's not the religion but our expression of it. Our expression of our religion is the potential happiness or havoc maker. Well without further ado, please listen to my thoughts in this 15 mins video extracted from the longer version.

The beginning of the universe, for beginners

How did the universe begin -- and how is it expanding? CERN physicist Tom Whyntie shows how cosmologists and particle physicists explore these questions by replicating the heat, energy, and activity of the first few seconds of our universe, from right after the Big Bang.

See-through brains

Scientists have come up with a way to make whole brains transparent, so they can be labelled with molecular markers and imaged using a light microscope. The technique, called CLARITY, enabled its creators to produce the detailed 3D visualisations you see in this video. It works in mouse brains and human brains; here the team use it to look into the brain of a 7-year-old boy who had autism.

Morality (podcast on moral)

If you don't believe in God, where do your morals come from?

Non-believers hear this question constantly. In this episode, we talk about morality as it pertains to scripture and to our everyday lives. We'll also present to the listeners and callers a series of ethical dilemmas that will test their wits and, hopefully, reveal humankind's innate desire to be good and moral creatures.

Climate Changes, But Facts Don't: Debunking Monckton

On the 19th of July in 2011 the National Press Club of Australia held a debate on climate change. In this video I will be analysing the claims Christopher Monckton made during the debate and if they are correct or not.

The reason I'm doing this is that Christopher Monckton challenges his critics to check his sources, or like he put it in this debate "to do your homework". I'm going to follow him up on this to see if the scientific literature, and other available sources, corroborate what he's saying.

A full transcript of this video is available on the website RealSceptic.com. The transcript has been split up in the different claims made by Christopher Monckton and are listed in chronological order. On the page for each individual claim you will also find a full listing of all the sources I used for that particular section of the video.

Hope you will find this video interesting and informative.

Science & Religion Lecture - "Two Ships at Night"

At best, science and religion have very little to do with one another. At worst, they are completely incompatible. And what little connection between the two even in the best of cases involves a one-way street. Science may enrich faith, but not vice versa.

Dr. Lawrence Krauss' Science & Religion Lecture - "Two Ships at Night"

Dr. Lawrence Krauss will discuss modern misunderstandings of this limited connection, coming both from science as well as religion, as well as modern abuses that demean both science and faith. The origin and evolution of the universe will serve as a good (or bad) example.

Science Under Attack (BBC Horizon Documentary)

Nobel Prize winner Sir Paul Nurse examines why science appears to be under attack, and why public trust in key scientific theories has been eroded - from the theory that man-made climate change is warming our planet, to the safety of GM food, or that HIV causes AIDS.

Paul Nurse interviews scientists and campaigners from both sides of the climate change debate, and travels to New York to meet Tony, who has HIV but doesn't believe that that the virus is responsible for AIDS.

This is a passionate defence of the importance of scientific evidence and the power of experiment, and a look at what scientists themselves need to do to earn trust in controversial areas of science in the 21st century.

Conspiracy Road Trip: UFOs

Are we alone in the universe or have we been visited by aliens? If the answer to the last question is yes, have the world's governments been covering up this incredible 'truth'?

Comedian Andrew Maxwell is a logical guy and he is going to tackle these big questions on an American road trip from Los Angeles to Area 51. He is taking five UFO believers who claim to have witnessed spacecraft from other galaxies, been attacked by UFOs, had close encounters with ETs and believe an alien attack is imminent for a close encounter of the rational kind. Andrew takes them to meet experts, eyewitnesses and journalists to see if he can dispel the myths around UFO sightings.

Includes contributions by Seth Shostak of The SETI Institute, PZ Myers and Michael Shermer of Skeptic Magazine.

Teenagers to be jailed for reading NY times?‏

We need to beat back a bad proposal to expand the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) -- in a hurry. So we're asking the Internet Defense League to snap into action on Monday and Tuesday of next week. (April 8th and 9th.)

You'll be joining Fight for the Future, Demand Progress, EFF, Boing Boing, Reddit, and other great groups and sites as we stand together against this awful proposal.

As many of you probably know, our friend (and friend to many of you) Aaron Swartz committed suicide earlier this year, while he was being prosecuted for downloading too many academic articles from the JSTOR cataloguing site. Prosecutors were hanging four decades in prison over his head!

Aaron was charged under the CFAA, a law that passed in the mid-80s, before more than a handful of Americans even had personal computers -- let alone Internet access.

Yet law enforcement interprets this statute so broadly that it claims it criminalizes all sorts of mundane Internet use: potentially even breaking a website's fine print terms of service agreement. Don't set up a Myspace page for your cat. Don't fudge your height on a dating site. Don't share your Facebook password with anybody, ever. You could be committing a federal crime.

We've been pushing to change this, and have made some progress: Reps and Senators are pulling together a proposal called "Aaron's Law".

But... then last week members of the House Judiciary Committee floated an audacious proposal that would actually expand and harshen certain parts of the CFAA. Think of it as the opposite of Aaron's Law. And we're hearing that it could come up for a vote as soon as next week.

We need your helping beating back this awful proposal and to build momentum for Aaron's Law.

Please click here to read more and grab Demand Progress' code for our embeddable widgets (IDL code coming soon):

www.fixthecfaa.com

Reforming the CFAA is a real chance for the US Congress to make laws governing the Internet better and fairer. And it's a chance for the coalition that came together around SOPA to actually pass positive reform. If all of us take action next week, it won't just kill a bad bill, it will help us build real momentum to passing positive change in the wake of Aaron's death.

Thanks!

Holmes Wilson
