Deep Earth - Deep Earth
Our planet has amazing power, and yet that's rarely mentioned in our history books. This series tells the story of how the Earth has influenced human history, from the dawn of civilisation to the modern industrial age. It reveals for the first time on television how geology, geography and climate have been a far more powerful influence on the human story than has previously been acknowledged. A combination of epic story telling, visually stunning camerawork, extraordinary locations and passionate presenting combine to form a highly original version of human history.
Discover why societies have succeeded or failed, and how the environment has influenced every aspect of our history from art to industry, religion to war, world domination or collapse. Visiting some of the most iconic places on Earth, How Earth Made Us overturns preconceptions about our civilisations and our cultures to offer a new perspective on who we are today.
Deep Earth: In the first episode Iain explores the relationship between the deep Earth and the development of human civilisation. He visits an extraordinary crystal cave in Mexico, drops down a hole in the Iranian desert and crawls through seven-thousand-year-old tunnels in Israel. His exploration reveals that throughout history, our ancestors were strangely drawn to fault lines, areas which connect the surface with the deep interior of the planet. These fault lines gave access to important resources, but also brought with them great danger.

The Book of Job
Why do bad things happen to good people? Well, we're actually made privy of God's "mysterious" reason in this particular case, and we find out that it isn't so mysterious after all. Historically, Job has been revered as a great work of literature. Nobody really knows who wrote it, but the powers that be figured it had to be God-breathed.
This book disgusts me mainly because it values material possessions over sons and daughters. Job's children were killed, and he's supposed to be fine with that because God returned twice the amount of his possessions. Sorry, not good enough. Yeah, Job had ten more kids, but as any parent who has lost a child can tell you: ONE CHILD DOES NOT REPLACE ANOTHER.
This book touts an immoral message, and it's paraded by many as deep and insightful. Many religious folk are told what this book is about, but don't actually read it for themselves, or they squirm with inaccurate interpretations that are directly contrary to the actual literature. They're almost forced to, because they've devoted themselves to the bible, and this immoral message is in the bible. But the message is quite easy to understand. Fuck this book.

I'm calling you out, TheoreticalBullshit!
"I just know it" is not an argument. "The FDA" is not the entire pharmaceutical, diagnostic, scientific, regulatory, clinical, and screening industry, any more than "The Bold and the Beautiful" is the entire entertainment industry.
TheoreticalBullshit: Advance a reasonable argument on why you think there is a vast conspiracy to hide the existence of "cures" for cancer and HIV and why "the FDA" has both the power and desire to hide them. Compellingly prove that the FDA is what's wrong with the clinical treatment of chronic disease.

Social Suicide
For many, proclaiming a personal rejection of the supernatural is a non-event. Within the home and throughout the workplace, it changes nothing. But for others, the term "atheist" is toxic and carries significant personal consequences.
These are the actual voices of several men and women who have been cast out, cut off, ostracized and/or otherwise penalized for the crime of thinking for themselves.
The Art of PROFESSIONAL stupidity! (Eric Hovind)
The core of the argument is, 'my proof that god exists is that I assume that god exists'. Yup, I believe we have reached the apex of lazy arguments for god.
Eric Hovind looks to be trying to make a name for himself with the 'great argument' for god. Now having seen Erics track record, I don't think I'm far from the mark when I say Eric, with his years of home-schooling from his daddy, the convicted tax-fraudster Kent Hovind, has be scouring the place for an argument so simply that he can make it, and he's found it in Presuppositional apologetics. Now, according to him, he doesn't need to know anything, all he needs to do is assume that god exists, and therefore god exists. He also needs to assume the bibles contents are true. Now of course to 'prove' something exists by assuming it exists is worthy of a wold class stupidity award. Eric is aware of this too, in that he wouldn't accept the presupposition that the ghost that never lies exists as proof for the ghost that never lies.
I also managed to dig up Ray Comforts original video about bananas prove the existence of god (the one which he subsequently claimed was a joke..... a bold faced lie if ever there was one). In this video he also claims that apples prove the existence of god! Funny stuff! :-)

The Church, indeed society in recent times has moved towards a self induced unconscious psychophysical vacuum. The Society in which the church still holds sway, or, has any self- indulgent relevance is in the most unashamedly middle class pockets of ever increasingly segregated communities. The church and it's ideology has become a magnet for middle class exponents of faith.

What FACEBOOK and GOOGLE are Hiding from world
As web companies strive to tailor their services (including news and search results) to our personal tastes, there's a dangerous unintended consequence: We get trapped in a "filter bubble" and don't get exposed to information that could challenge or broaden our worldview. Eli Pariser argues powerfully that this will ultimately prove to be bad for us and bad for democracy.
Eli Pariser of the progressive organization MoveOn says the Internet is hiding things from us, and we don't even know it. In this TED Talk he calls out Facebook, Goggle and other corporations who are transforming the Internet to suit their corporate interests.

Human Version 2.0
Meet the scientific prophets who claim we are on the verge of creating a new type of human - a human v2.0. It's predicted that by 2029 computer intelligence will equal the power of the human brain. Some believe this will revolutionise humanity - we will be able to download our minds to computers extending our lives indefinitely. Others fear this will lead to oblivion by giving rise to destructive ultra intelligent machines. One thing they all agree on is that the coming of this moment - and whatever it brings - is inevitable.

Why is there no mention of Kangaroos on Noah's Ark?
Question: Why is there no mention of Kangaroos on Noah's Ark?
Answer: The flood was local to Noah's geographical area. That was the known world. The ark was built to house the animal life in that area.
Now lets examine the wise morons of evolution's theory:
Yes 10,000,000 species of animal life on the planet and the Evolutionist want you to believe that all 10,000,000 of them "evolved" each of their own sex (one of each sex), in exactly the same locations on the planet, at exactly the same time rate, in order to find each other at the precise moment of both their individual evolutionary metamorphosis, and then mated to produce each of the individual species that they count in the 10,000,000. I tell you, it would be easier to have built a boat big enough to hold them all!

Genius Of Darwin: Life, Darwin & Everything
In the first part of the series, Richard Dawkins retraces Charles Darwin's journey as a scientist. He re-examines the rich evidence of the natural world iguanas on the Galapagos islands, giant fossilised sloths in the Americas and even pigeons back home in England which opened Charles Darwin's eyes to the extraordinary truth that all living things must be related and had evolved from a common ancestor.
Charles Darwin knew his espousal of evolution would cause outrage, challenging, as it did, the prevailing religious view of the world and our place in it. But, as Dawkins explains, it was really his theory of natural selection that undermined the notion of a benevolent God who designed all creatures great and small. Returning to his own birthplace, Kenya, Dawkins considers the brutal realities of the struggle for existence for wild animals on the plains of Africa. Here, he argues, we see the ongoing process sex, suffering and death, that drives evolution onward as the fittest survive to reproduce and the weakest perish without offspring.
Charles Dawkins explains who Charles Darwin was, how he developed his theory, what it is, and why it matters. He reveals how Darwin changed forever the way we see ourselves, the world and our place in it, and hopes to convince us that "evolution is a fact, backed by undeniable evidence".
The Genius of Charles Darwin is a three-part television documentary, written and presented by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins. As we approach the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's masterpiece, On the Origin of Species, Richard Dawkins presents the ultimate guide to Darwin and his revolutionary theory of evolution by natural selection which Dawkins considers the most important idea ever to occur to a human mind.

God's Moral Framework
It's hard to believe that people think our laws are based on the bible. It is quite clear that the commandments, especially the revised ones (NONE of which are laws today), are the meaningless traditions of an ancient, superstitious people - not an objective moral code sent down by some mysterious, all-powerful, never-seen being.
Furthermore, I think it's comical the way the Jews were frequently seeing the great "God Himself", to be revered and feared, but then they constantly turned around to stab Him in the back - so unrealistic. The bible is an ancient Jerry Bruckheimer movie.

Pharmacy Giant Shoppers Drug Mart Sued for Selling Homeopathic Product
In this video, Think Again! TV shares news of a $30 million lawsuit against Shoppers Drug Mart and Boiron Canada related to the selling of homeopathic product Oscillococcinum. We describe why our production company - Centre for Inquiry Canada - has joined as Scientific Advisors on this case. We also take the opportunity afforded us by this initiative to expose Oscillococcinum for what it is, and explain the problem with the selling of products that make unfounded and unscientific claims.

Shoppers Drug Mart Named In $30M Lawsuit For Selling Homeopathic Product
TORONTO, ONTARIO (Marketwire - April 11, 2012) - The Centre for Inquiry (CFI) Canada is lending critical scientific support in a $30 million lawsuit against Shoppers Drug Mart and Boiron Canada.
The suit alleges sales of Oscillococcinum, a homeopathic product marketed for flu-like symptoms, violate consumer protection laws.
"Oscillococcinum is overpriced sugar," said Iain Martel, Chair of CFI's Committee for the Advancement of Scientific Skepticism. "The extreme dilutions used to make it ensure there is not a single molecule left of its supposed medicinal ingredient."
CFI sent letters to Shoppers in January and March 2012, calling for the pharmacy giant to stop stocking products like Oscillo that make false and misleading claims about their contents and effectiveness.
"Shoppers Drug Mart had the opportunity for voluntary compliance, but chose not to respond," said Justin Trottier, CFI's National Communications Director. "Their silence gave us no choice but to support a legal approach."
CFI entered a partner-solicitor relationship with Roy Elliott O'Connor LLP, recognized as one of the best class action law firms in Canada, and famous for charter cases on provocative issues including same-sex marriage, euthanasia, privacy, and censorship.
Boiron recently agreed to spend up to $12 million to resolve similar accusations in the United States. Consumers there sought refunds for Boiron products, including Oscillococcinum, that do not work as claimed.
"We hope everyone who profits from homeopathic products watches closely," said Trottier. "These may prove to be landmark cases that revoke the free pass held by those making misleading, unfounded and unscientific claims about homeopathic products."

Richard Dawkins: Nice Guys Finish First
Nice Guys Finish First is a documentary by Richard Dawkins which discusses selfishness and cooperation, arguing that evolution often favors co-operative behaviour, and focusing especially on the tit for tat strategy of the prisoner's dilemma game. The film was produced by Jeremy Taylor. The twelfth chapter in Dawkins' book The Selfish Gene (added in the second edition, 1989) is also named Nice Guys Finish First and explores similar material.
Richard Dawkins responds very precisely to what he views as a misrepresentation of his first book The Selfish Gene. In particular the response of the right wing for using it as justification for social darwinism and laissez-faire economics (free-market capitalism). Richard Dawkins has examined this issue throughout his whole career and focused much of the recent documentary, The Genius of Charles Darwin on this very issue.
The concept of reciprocal altruism is a central theme of this documentary. Dawkins also examines the tragedy of the commons and the dilemma that it presents. He uses the large area of common land Port Meadow in Oxford, England which has been hurt by overgrazing as an example of the tragedy of the commons. Fourteen academics as well as experts in game theory submitted their own computer programs to compete in a tournament to see who would win in the prisoner's dilemma. The winner was tit for tat, a program based on "equal retaliation", and Dawkins illustrates the four conditions of tit for tat.
1. Unless provoked, the agent will always cooperate.
2. If provoked, the agent will retaliate.
3. The agent is quick to forgive.
4. The agent must have a good chance of competing against the opponent more than once.
In a second trial, this time of over sixty applicants, tit for tat won again.

Singing Praises to God
According to tradition, it is on the 7th day of Passover that the Israelites crossed the Red Sea and as they crossed they sang the song Az Yashir, praising God for saving them. The midrash (the interpretation of the Bible) explains that when Adam was created he never thanked God. When Abraham was saved he never thanked God. When Isaac was saved from the sacrifice by Abraham, he never said thank you.
When Jacob was saved from Laban and from his brother Esau, he never said thank you. Instead, it was the Israelites at the Red Sea who, for the first time in history, expressed their thanks to God. Thank you for rescuing us. And God said, I've been waiting for that. That's what the seventh day of Passover is about. Acknowledging the goodness of God, of people and saying thank you.

What Really Killed The Dinosaurs
Until recently most scientists thought they knew what killed off the dinosaurs. A 10km-wide meteorite had smashed into the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, causing worldwide forest fires, tsunamis several kilometres high, and an 'impact winter' - in which dust blocked out the sun for months or years. It was thought that the dinosaurs were blasted, roasted and frozen to death, in that order.
But now a small but vociferous group of scientists believes there is increasing evidence that this 'impact' theory could be wrong. That suggestion has generated one of the bitterest scientific rows of recent times.
The impact theory
The impact theory was beautifully simple and appealing. Much of its evidence was drawn from a thin layer of rock known as the 'KT boundary'. This layer is 65 million years old (which is around the time when the dinosaurs disappeared) and is found around the world exposed in cliffs and mines.
For supporters of the impact theory, the KT boundary layers contained two crucial clues. In 1979 scientists discovered that there were high concentrations of a rare element called iridium, which they thought could only have come from an asteroid. Right underneath the iridium was a layer of 'spherules', tiny balls of rock which seemed to have been condensed from rock which had been vaporized by a massive impact.
On the basis of the spherules and a range of other evidence, Dr Alan Hildebrand of the University of Calgary deduced that the impact must have happened in the Yucatan peninsula, at the site of a crater known as Chicxulub. Chemical analysis later confirmed that the spherules had indeed come from rocks within the crater.
The impact theory seemed to provide the complete answer. In many locations around the world, the iridium layer (evidence of an asteroid impact) sits right on top of the spherule layer (evidence that the impact was at Chicxulub). So Hildebrand and other supporters of the impact theory argued that there was one massive impact 65 million years ago, and that it was at Chicxulub. This, they concluded, must have finished off the dinosaurs by a variety of mechanisms.
Challenging the theory
But a group of scientists led by Prof Gerta Keller of Princeton and Prof Wolfgang Stinnesbeck of the University of Karlsruhe begged to differ. They uncovered a series of geological clues which suggests the truth may be far more complicated. In short, that the crater in the Yucatan is too old to have killed off the dinosaurs.
They concentrated on a series of rock formations in Mexico where the iridium layer was separated from the spherule layer by many metres of sandstone. That opinion sparked a massive row, as the supporters of the impact theory such as Prof Jan Smit of Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, rubbished Keller's ideas. Smit argued that the sandstone had been deposited by massive tsunami waves caused by the asteroid, and so did not undermine the idea of a single impact.
But Keller's team found evidence - such as ancient worm burrows - that suggested that the deposition of the sandstone had been interrupted many times. They concluded that there was a gap of some 300,000 years between the deposition of the spherules (from the Chicxulub crater) and the iridium (from an asteroid). Therefore there must have been two impacts.
The Chicxulub impact, they said, was too old to have finished off the dinosaurs, and there must have been another impact somewhere else which was to blame. That crater has not yet been found.
More challenges
Keller's views provoked a lively scientific row. In 2001, to try to resolve the dispute an international group of scientists extracted rock cores from deep within the Yucatan crater. Predictably, each side thought the evidence supported their argument.
Although still in the minority, Keller's work does now attract some support. And a range of scientists have begun to question other hypotheses connected with the impact theory. Claire Belcher of Royal Holloway, University of London, has found evidence which suggests that wildfires were not widespread in North America following the KT impact.
Prof Dave Archibald of San Diego State University is convinced that the survival of creatures such as frogs disproves the idea that the dinosaurs perished amid acid rain as strong as battery acid, or that an 'impact winter' caused a massive and sustained drop in temperature.
Dr Norman MacLeod of the Natural History Museum in London is among a large group of scientists who are convinced the dinosaurs were already being driven to extinction by climate change long before the arrival of the KT impact, or impacts.

Dr Norman MacLeod of the Natural History Museum in London is among a large group of scientists who are convinced the dinosaurs were already being driven to extinction by climate change long before the arrival of the KT impact, or impacts.

Michio Kaku: The Biotech Revolution
Genetics and biotechnology promise a future of unprecedented health and longevity: DNA screening could prevent many diseases, gene therapy could cure them and, thanks to lab-grown organs, the human body could be repaired as easily as a car, with spare parts readily available. Ultimately, the ageing process itself could be slowed down or even halted. But what impact will this have on who we are and how we will live? And, with our mastery of the genome, will the human race end up in a world divided by genetic apartheid?

Neanderthal
In 1848 a strange skull was discovered on the military outpost of Gibraltar. It was undoubtedly human, but also had some of the heavy features of an ape... distinct brow ridges, and a forward projecting face. Just what was this ancient creature? And when had it lived? As more remains were discovered one thing became clear, this creature had once lived right across Europe. The remains were named Homo neanderthalensis (Neanderthal man) an ancient and primitive form of human.
The archaeological evidence revealed that the earliest Neanderthals had lived in Europe about 200,000 years ago. But then, about 30,000 years ago, they disappeared... just at the time when the first modern humans appear in Europe. The story has it that our ancestors, modern humans, spread out of Africa about 100,000 years ago with better brains and more sophisticated tools. As they spread into Neanderthal territory, they simply out-competed their primitive cousins.
But was Neanderthal really the brutish ape-man of legend, or an effective rival to our own species? And how exactly had he been driven to extinction? What could be found out about this remarkable evolution from the bones themselves? To begin the investigation a skeleton was needed, and no complete Neanderthal had ever been found.
However a reconstruction expert at The American Museum of Natural History in New York realised that it would be possible to create an entire composite skeleton from casts of partial skeletons. Gary Sawyer combined and rebuilt broken parts to create the most complete Neanderthal ever seen. This Neanderthal stood no more than 1.65m (5' 4") tall, but he had a robust and powerful build - perfect for his Ice Age environment. But would he have stood up to the cold better than modern humans?

Richard Dawkins: The Greatest Show On Earth
Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion created a storm of controversy over the question of God's existence. Now, in The Greatest Show on Earth, Dawkins presents a stunning counterattack against advocates of "Intelligent Design" that explains the evidence for evolution while keeping an eye trained on the absurdities of the creationist argument.
More than an argument of his own, it's a thrilling tour into our distant past and into the interstices of life on earth. Taking us through the case for evolution step-by-step, Dawkins looks at DNA, selective breeding, anatomical similarities, molecular family trees, geography, time, fossils, vestiges and imperfections, human evolution, and the formula for a strong scientific theory.
Dawkins' trademark wit and ferocity is joined by an infectious passion for the beauty and strangeness of the natural world, proving along the way that the mechanisms of the natural world are more miraculous -- a "greater show" -- than any creation story generated by any religion on earth.

The Day We Learned To Think
Understanding of humans' earliest past often comes from studying fossils. They tell us much of what we know about the people who lived before us. There is one thing fossils cannot tell us; at what point did we stop living day-to-day and start to think symbolically, to represent ideas about our environment and how we could change it? At a dig in South Africa the discovery of a small piece of ochre pigment, 70,000 years old, has raised some very interesting questions.

Sweeney travels to Utah to examine the appeal of the world's fastest growing religion. He meets polygamists, followers of an old Mormon tradition the official Church has turned its back on, he talks to missionaries who recruit people around the world just like Mitt Romney in the sixties, finds ex-members who claim they are cut off from their families and accuse Mormonism of being a cult, and he explores the faith with a Mormon apostle.
