Capitol Controversy

At this season of the Winter Solstice may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.

That's what the Madison-based Freedom from Religion Foundation put up this holiday season in the marble hallways of the State Capitol in Olympia, Washington between the Senate and House chambers.

The placard stands next to a giant xmas tree (a pagan symbol that has become associated with the Christian holiday) and a traditional nativity scene. This gesture symbolizes the very controversial topic of religion's role in the U.S. Joshua Johnson Reports.
