This debate boils down to whether one is able to trust four inherently biased sources (written no earlier than 25 years AFTER the events they supposedly describe) as being indicators of truth. No good historian would or should- only the deluded faithful do!

The debate boils down to whether the 4 gospel accounts can be relied upon as sources of truth. Given they were written no earlier than 25 years after the events they are supposedly describing, by authors not renowned for documenting history, who had every reason to be biased in favor of miraculous claims, one has to be very skeptical.
