In response to another YouTube channel that challenged me to 'debate' the topic of slavery in the Bible, we take a look at what the Bible says about slavery, by actually reading the passages. (Something that not enough believers actually bother to do).
The individual I'm responding to doesn't seem to represent any typical Christian view. Some of his arguments are typical while others are far from typical. The takeaway is that it's probably not going to be worthwhile to address fringe positions - but knowing that they're out there will help you recognize when you might be wasting your time.

Noelle George, founder of Secular Avenue - Friendly Atheist Podcast
Noelle George is a secular activist interested in making a tangible difference in the world, rather than simply arguing about religion behind a keyboard. She founded the SECULAR Center in Houston and is the Director of Special Projects for Foundation Beyond Belief (a group I work with). But her latest endeavor is aimed at helping those people who most need it.
It’s called Secular Avenue. The group will assist those who are unsafe at home because they are no longer religious, living under religious extremism, victims of domestic abuse, or coming out as LGBTQ. Secular Avenue will offer those people financial help, counseling, and legal assistance, among other things.
We spoke with Noelle about how people in need can get help, what we can do to pitch in, and why it’s so important for atheists to find a way to volunteer.
Check out our longer interview with Noelle and please consider making a donation to her organization.

Linda LaScola is a research consultant perhaps best known for her work with philosopher Daniel Dennett in which they speak with pastors who may secretly be atheists. (You can read that paper here.)
She co-founded the Clergy Project — a site for religious leaders harboring serious doubts about their faith — and she is about to re-release her book on the topic, Caught in the Pulpit: Leaving Belief Behind, with updates and additions. She also blogs on Patheos at Rational Doubt, a site that features several articles by doubting pastors.
We spoke with LaScola about how the Clergy Project began, whether coming out as an atheist (when you’re a pastor) is a good or bad idea, and the surprising book that finally turned one pastor into an atheist.

Satan and Equal Rights are Kind of The Same Thing
A Tennessee pastor said this week that his church was “not trying to offend anyone” when it put up a sign linking “equal rights” to Satan.
Members of the community expressed outrage over the weekend after photos of marquee outside the Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle Church were circulated online. The sign read, “Remember, Satan was the first to demand equal rights.”
“Who was your target audience? Who were you speaking to when you put it up there?” Knoxville resident Rick Staples, asked, according to WBIR. “And when you say you’re asking for your equal rights, who’s asking for their equal rights and who are you comparing to Satan? That was very strong language.”
Andy Henry said that the church was trying to make a statement about gay rights.

5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Teach Religion to Your Child
Hemant Mehta: "A lot of parents, even atheist parents, think they need to bring their child up with religion because it'll teach them values and morals.
Now, obviously, you can do those things without religion. Even children know why lying and stealing are bad -- because they wouldn't want people to do it to them -- and Jesus doesn't have to come into the equation."
Sadly Hemant Mehta is not a wise man. Of course you shall teach your kids religion. It is a very importet subject. You shall not preach religion to your children.

Peter Boghossian is a philosophy professor at Portland State University and the author of A Manual for Creating Atheists, a book in which he talks about “street epistemology” — essentially how to talk people out of their faith. He’s currently working on a phone app that’ll guide people through that process.
We spoke with Peter about why his approach isn’t just “atheist evangelism,” why smart people can believe silly things, and whether his techniques work on his own children in other areas of life.

South Park Tells About the Foundation of Mormonism and Joseph Smith
Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb! South Park brilliantly tells the story of the foundation of Mormonism by Joseph Smith in upstate New York. What South Park didn't say is *why* Smith created this religion. He did so to justify having multiple (40+) underage wives, which didn't sit too well with the Quakers in upstate New York. The funniest part of this video is that it's all true!

"Cool Kids" by Echosmith from Talking Dreams.
Video directed by Mark Pellington in Los Angeles, CA.
"Cool Kids" Lyrics:
She sees them walking in a straight line, that's not really her style
They all got the same heartbeat, but hers is falling behind
Nothing in this world could ever bring them down
Yeah, they're invincible and she's just in the background
And she says
I wish that I could be like the cool kids cuz all the cool kids, they seem to fit in
I wish that I could be like the cool kids, like the cool kids
He sees them talking with a big smile, but they haven't got a clue
Yeah, they're living the good life, can't see what he is going through
They're driving fast cars, but they don't know where they're going
In the fast lane, living life without knowing
And he says
I wish that I could be like the cool kids cuz all the cool kids, they seem to fit in
I wish that I could be like the cool kids, like the cool kids
I wish that I could be like the cool kids cuz all the cool kids, they seem to get it

10 Reasons The Bible Isn't a Well-Written Book
If the Bible were actually inspired by God, it would look very different from the book so many Christians revere.
You would think anything written by or inspired by the most powerful being ever would be equally as amazing. But it's not.
The blogger Southern Skeptic did an excellent job of explaining why -- you can see a link below -- and he gave me permission to share and expand upon his ideas in this video.
So how do we know the Bible is not a well-written book?
1) It's not well-organized.
The Bible is a huge mess. It's in chronological order, but thematically, it's all over the place. That might be okay for a history book, but not when it's a guidebook for life.
And that's a huge problem when Christians use the Bible to justify their beliefs.
They have to flip through the book all over the place to find particular verses to defend their views.
You want verses about Love? Marriage? Homosexuality? Abortion? You won't find them in one place. There's not even a helpful index.
It forces Christians to quote verses out of context all the time.
2) There are no pictures!
I know: not all books need pictures, but sometimes, diagrams and charts are really useful. Even the Lord of the Rings books include a map.
Where's the diagram of a family tree instead of a long, boring list of begats?
What about a timeline to help readers keep track of the characters?
Just sayin'. It'd be helpful.
3) It's not very specific.
4) It's not easy to understand.
5) It's not consistent.
6) It doesn't make any clear predictions
7) It lacks knowledge that humans of the time couldn't have had
8) The characters make no sense
9) It's too repetitive.
10) It goes too far with the stories
God should've backed off. Instead, he jumped the shark in the first chapter.
You would think anything written by or inspired by the most powerful being ever would be equally as amazing. But it's not.

Gay Students Ordered To Take Christian Sensitivity Training
At George Washington University a college group, Young America's Foundation, is asking in a threatening manner that homosexual students be required to attend sensitivity training after they refused to attend LGBT sensitivity training. This move is coming at a time when the group has scheduled to host a visit from Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum. The YAF bases its main argument around their idea that gay students do not respect what they call 'traditional marriage'.
The college president became involved releasing a statement that boiled down to saying that regardless of the groups views LGBT people do exist and that as such sensitivity training is mandatory. Allied in Pride, the campus's pro-LGBT group has asked that YAF be labeled as a hate group due to its comments against the LGBT community.
Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) host of The Young Turks discusses a college group that is demanding sensitivity training to teach gay students respect.

Homeopathy no more effective than placebos
Homeopathy no more effective than placebos, a study by the National Health and Medical Research Council finds
NHMRC releases statement and advice on homeopathy Date: 11 March 2015
What is homeopathy?
Based on the theory of treating 'like with like', and is supposed to work by giving you very small amounts of substances that in larger doses would cause the very symptoms you want cured.
Taking small doses of these substances – which are derived from plants, animals or minerals – will strengthen the body's own ability to heal and increase its resistance to illness or infection.
Substances contained in homeopathic products are so small they are usually undetectable, but it is argued they still have a biological effect.
Homeopathy is used to treat a wide variety of complaints – coughs, colds, depression, headaches, asthma, arthritis – most common day-to-day ailments.

Nuns Shot In Head Right In Front Of Bill O'Reilly's Imagination
"Yet more allegations have emerged against embattled Fox News host Bill O'Reilly following claims he embellished his war reporting experiences in Argentina during the 1982 Falklands war and lied about witnessing a suicide in Florida.
According to information collected by liberal watchdog group Media Matters, O'Reilly may also have fabricated a story about witnessing the execution of four nuns during El Salvador's civil war in 1980.
Bill O'Reilly has claimed he has "seen guys gun down nuns in El Salvador" and "was in El Salvador and I saw nuns get shot in the back of the head" during his time as a CBS correspondent. The incident that O'Reilly appears to be referring to is the well-documented execution of four churchwomen by the Salvadoran national guard in December 1980. After this event, experts say that there were no priests or nuns killed in the country for more than eight years."
The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur & John Iadarola break it down.
