Police officials admit to shooting two innocent individuals accidentally. 19 year old Quintonio Legrier and 55 year old Bettie Jones were shot by police in two separate incidents.
Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.
“Already rocked by protests over a string of officer-involved shootings, the Chicago Police Department is offering ‘condolences’ for two more victims: a student and a grandma.
He was a promising engineering student who grew up in foster care and was determined to make something of himself. She was a mother of five who loved church and dancing, and had just hosted her family Christmas.
In the early hours of Dec. 26, both were killed by Chicago cops responding to a 911 call over the student—a heartbreaking incident that comes weeks after the U.S. Department of Justice announced an investigation into the Chicago Police Department’s use of excessive force against minorities.
Authorities confirmed a Chicago police officer “accidentally” shot Bettie Jones, 55, as she answered the door for police, who had arrived after her neighbor Antonio LeGrier, the father of 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier, reported a domestic disturbance.”

Misquoting Jesus Interview C-SPAN
On October 15, 2006, Bart D. Ehrman was interviewed about his book, "Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why," published by Harper San Francisco. His New York Times best-seller Misquoting Jesus documents the many differences in the 5400-plus existing Greek manuscripts on which the New Testament is based, and the problems this causes scholars. In this interview he also discussed his current book at that time, "The Lost Gospel of Judas Iscariot."
Bart was interviewed at Bryant Park in New York City during the New York Times Great Read in the park, by C-SPAN2 Book TV.
Bart D. Ehrman is the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He came to UNC in 1988, after four years of teaching at Rutgers University. At UNC he has served as both the Director of Graduate Studies and the Chair of the Department of Religious Studies. A graduate of Wheaton College (Illinois), Professor Ehrman received both his Masters of Divinity and Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary, where his 1985 doctoral dissertation was awarded magna cum laude.

Woman Attacks Muslims Praying (VIDEO)
An enraged woman attacked a group of muslim men praying in a park. The woman yelled at them, saying that “Allah is Satan,” and later threw coffee in the face of a man recording her on his cell phone.
Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.
“A group of Muslims praying in a public park in California were interrupted, chastised and attacked by a woman calling them murderers.
Arab American News reports Rasheed Albeshari and several friends were engaged in a public prayer in an Alameda County park when a woman began talking to them, telling them “you are very deceived by Satan!” Albeshari immediately began recording the exchange.
“She was saying ‘Allah is Satan and you are all murderers,'” he said. “One of my friends was trying to tell her ‘We believe in Jesus. We love Jesus.'”

Viral Video Proves People Don’t Know The Bible From The Qur’an
A Dutch YouTube group called "Dit Is Normaal” performed an experiment where they read horrible quotes from The Bible, to people on the street, pretending that the quotes came from the Qur’an. People had some interesting reactions.
Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discus.
“Dutch YouTubers Dit Is Normaal have carried out a social experiment that’s been viewed over 2 million times on YouTube.
They pointed out that since recent terrorist events, the religion of Islam has been under scrutiny.
Over the weekend, for example, the hashtag #YouAintNoMuslimBruv trended in the UK after footage of a stabbing incident in east London went viral.
Dit Is Normaal wanted to see what people would make of some of the Bible’s most extreme points of view if they were presented as Islamic

Marco Rubio: Paris Attacks Were God’s Plan
You might have forgotten, but Marco Rubio is running for the presidency. He was asked recently at a rally, “Why does God allow terrible things to happen?”
--
"Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio thinks the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the recent massacre in Paris were part of God’s plan.
Speaking at a campaign rally last Monday in Iowa, the Florida senator said Christians should never be afraid because God was in control of the universe, the Christian Post reported.
“We are biblically ordered not to be afraid,” Rubio said. “You know why? Because God is telling us that no matter what happens, ‘It is part of my plan. I will give you the strength to endure it whether you like it or not.'”
Rubio noted that he had previously been asked why God would allow terrorist attacks to happen.”

Andrea Tantaros: Liberals Indicting Entire Religion… Christian White Republicans
In the wake of the Planned Parenthood terrorist attack, there was another sort of concern that Fox hosts raised. Some thought the left was too quick to jump to conclusions about the man shooting up a Planned Parenthood.
Ana Kasparian (The Point) and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down.
"Fox News host Andrea Tantaros blasted liberals on Monday for “indicting an entire religion” of “Christian white Republicans” following last week’s domestic terror attacks on a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado.
“I think this was pretty predictable,” Tantaros said. “You saw on Twitter a lot of people rushing to judgement. The same people who hesitate using the phrase Islamic terrorism were very quick to use the term ‘Christian’.”..
Fox News contributor Rachel Campos-Duffy argued that liberals were trying to tie the attacks to the anti-abortion movement as a plot to derail upcoming congressional hearings on Planned Parenthood.
“They are deeply embarrassed about these videos,” she insisted. “It pulled the curtain on what really happens in the back rooms of those abortion clinics. And that’s what this is about, they want to muzzle us.”
Tantaros added that “the left” wanted to stop all talk about “the illegal harvesting of baby parts on the off chance that some lunatic out there might hear that rhetoric and decide to go shoot up a clinic.””*

Pastor’s Wife Approves Husband Marrying Teenager
Thom Miller from Ohio used to work for the mob, but then became a born again Christian. At 60 he is now a pastor, and he has interpreted Christianity in a way that allows him to have more than one wife. With his first wife’s consent he has now married a 19 year old woman and impregnated her.
“A 60-year-old Ohio mob enforcer-turned-pastor married his teenage bride and got her pregnant, all with the blessing of the other lady in his life — his 44-year-old wife.
“The whole situation works for all three of us,” Thom Miller told Barcroft Media. “I am the only one who is allowed to have more than one partner — and both of my wives understand and appreciate that.”
Miller is now building a bigger home so he can split his time between his two ladies, whom he calls sister wives.
And he believes their polygamous lifestyle is strengthening family ties.
“It means they always have a friend with them.”

Bookstore Repeatedly Vandalized For Name
A book store in Denver is catching a lot of flack because it’s name is now associated with a terrorist group. ISIS Books & Gifts has been around since the 1980s and was named after the Egyptian goddess. But now people are vandalizing the store because they believe the owners support Islamic extremists.
Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.
“A Denver-area store called Isis Books & Gifts wants the world to know its name comes from the Egyptian goddess of healing and motherhood and it isn't run by terrorists.
Co-owner Jeff Harrison said Wednesday that the suburban Denver shop has been vandalized five times in the past year or so, probably by people who mistake the name for ISIS, one of the acronyms for the Islamic State terrorist group.
The latest vandalism came last weekend when a store sign was smashed after the terrorist attacks in Paris that killed 129 people.”

Is there Evidence for the Christian God? (debate)
Hear arguments, citing evidence, for and against the existence of the Christian god, Yahweh.
The affirmative position will discuss concepts from the following topics for a divine creator, and specifically the Christian God: cosmological, teleological and archaeological/historical evidence.
The dissenting position includes seven reasons for concluding that yahweh doesn't exist:
(1) Definition of Yahweh is logically inconsistent, and describes a being that cannot exist
(2) No empirical evidence for Yahweh or any other god
(3) Moral and internal failings of the Bible, the word of Yahweh
(4) Natural & man-made terrible events occur
(5) No reliable evidence for Jesus Christ, Yahweh’s messiah
(6) No need for Yahweh or any other god to explain the Universe, or how it works
(7) All the arguments attempting to prove that Yahweh exists fail
Taking the affirmative position in the debate is Will Young. He is originally from Seattle and grew up in both San Diego, CA and Seattle, WA. He is very interested in religion, economics and the natural sciences. Will holds a Masters in Architecture with a course concentration in construction technology. He also holds two ICBO licenses (i.e. building inspection and mechanical inspection), and two other building inspection licenses. Will has worked as a construction investigator, inspector and designer for contractors in Minneapolis and Richmond, CA. He currently works as an engineering technician for a local government agency and, as a side vocation, he purchases, holds and sometimes flips apartment buildings. During his free time he enjoys windsurfing, wakeboarding, sailing, scuba diving and social dancing.
Taking the dissenting position in the debate is ACSJ member Mark W. Thomas, whom has a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, and is the President of Atheists of Silicon Valley. He is a former California Assistant State Director of American Atheists, a former Board Member of Godless Americans Political Action Committee, and is a former member of Steering Committee of San Francisco Atheists.

Gun Massacre Forces Change in Australia, Why Not in the U.S.?
"Gun-control advocates in the U.S. are hoping 2012 marks a turning point in the country's struggle with gun violence. The massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary — where most of the 26 victims were killed with an assault rifle similar to the M-16 rifle issued to U.S. soldiers — might spur Washington lawmakers into action following a year of grisly, tragic mass shootings. There are now calls to reinstate a federal ban on assault weapons; the weeks ahead may see a heated debate over the long-enshrined place of guns in American society."*
Americans were told not to react with change after the deadly mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. But that's not have Australia acted after a gun massacre; they took action with bans and tighter licensing, and as a result, have far fewer gun homicide deaths. Cenk Uygur breaks it down

Son Beat To Death For His "Sins" Christianity
A couple in New York is facing manslaughter charges for allegedly beating there teenage son to death during a church ceremony. The couple got together with some other church members and beat the boy and his brother to rid them of their sins. Lucas, 17, did not survive.
“Two teenage brothers were brutally beaten in church – one of them fatally – in an effort by their parents, sister and other members of the congregation to force them to confess their sins and seek forgiveness, police said on Wednesday.
Police chief Michael Inserra said investigators are still looking into what the supposed sins were.
Lucas and Christopher Leonard, 19 and 17, were pounded with fists on Sunday at the Word of Life church when a “counseling session” meant to explore their spiritual state turned violent, Inserra said. They were beaten in the abdomen, genitals, back and thighs, authorities said.
Lucas died and his brother was hospitalized in serious condition. Six church members – including the brothers’ parents and sister – have been arrested.”

Oprah Winfrey official time was 4:29:15, which translates to a 10:16/mile pace (or 6:23/km). Lets face it: 4:29 is not running!

Think You’re A Christian? Better Check With Mike Huckabee First...
“Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee this week asserted that President Barack Obama had no right to “pretend” he’s a Christian after the White House invited LGBT and climate change activists to the White House to hear Pope Francis speak.
“I’m also concerned about a guy who believes he’s a Christian and then pretends to be and says he is but then does things that makes it very difficult for people to practice their Christian faith,” Huckabee told Newsmax on Tuesday. “If a person says, ‘I’m a Christian’ but you invite the pope into your home and then you invite a whole bunch of people who are at odds with the Catholic church policy, I think there’s something very unseemly about that.””*

Alternative Medicine Advocates Overdose On Psychotropic Drug
"A group of 29 homeopaths at a conference in Handeloh outside Hamburg, Germany had to be hospitalized after a mass overdose of the designer drug 2C-E. It isn’t clear how the group ended up ingesting the banned substance rather than a homeopathic remedy.
The psychotropic substance, which has been illegal in Germany since last year, is reputed to combine the euphoria of ecstasy, or MDMA, with the hallucinatory experiences of LSD. The effect is highly dose-dependent, however, and the 29 practitioners of alternative medicine participating in the conference, aged 24 to 56, were found “staggering around, rolling in a meadow, talking gibberish and suffering severe cramps” outside the conference hall, broadcaster NDR reported.
More than 150 emergency staff quickly arrived on the scene to administer sedatives and take blood tests. None of the victims reportedly suffered lasting physical damage"*

Kim Davis has granted an interview with ABC News, and during the interview she was very open about the terrible things she’s gone through because she’s a Christian. The interviewer points out that many call her a hypocrite because of her four marriages and adulterous relationships. She says she’s not a hypocrite because she’s forgiven and “washed clean.” Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.
Do you think Kim Davis is a hypocrite? Does asking forgiveness from God excuse her actions?

“Kentucky clerk Kim Davis spoke out in an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, and said she was not a homophobe because some of her best friends were gay.

“So you would deny your friends who are in gay relationships, you would deny them a marriage license as well?” asked ABC’s Paula Faris.”

Does Chick-fil-A Ban Violate Religious Freedom?
“Chick-fil-A is having some issues getting approval for a new location in Denver, and it's all because of the restaurant chain's anti-gay past.
City council members have halted the approval of a Chick-fil-A location at Denver International Airport as they debate whether or not the franchise should get a seven-year deal, according to the Denver Post. Chick-fil-A was "the second-most sought-after quick service brand at the airport, second to Chipotle," according to a 2013 survey of airport goers.
But council members voiced concerns over president Dan Cathy's views on gay marriage. When asked in 2012 whether he believed in the “Biblical definition of a family unit,” president Dan Cathy replied "guilty as charged."

Ehrman-Butt Debate Suffering & God's Existence
Bart Ehrman met with Kyle Butt at the campus of the University of North Alabama (UNA) on April 4, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. in the Norton Auditorium, which seats about 1,700 people. They were invited by the Christian Student Center on the campus. Gospel Broadcasting Network aired the event live on their television network, as well live streamed it on the Internet
Kyle wrote previous of the event explaining that, "He [Bart] is a self-avowed agnostic who claims that the pain and suffering he sees in the world make it impossible for him to believe that the Christian God exists. Thus, the debate will be on the subject of suffering and the existence of God. Ehrman will be affirming: “The pain and suffering in the world indicate that the Christian God does not exist.” I will be denying that proposition."

We Know What a Healthy Diet Is. Now Can We Stop Arguing About It?
Go ahead: Eat lean meat, eggs, and seafood, if that's what you want. Just remember, as Dr. David L. Katz notes in video interview, the bulk of your diet should be vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds. Katz is the author of "Disease-Proof" (http://goo.gl/R3t9kL).
Transcript:
I routinely point out that we could eliminate 80 percent of all chronic disease by using what we know. And we don’t do that. We really bog down in bickering about do we know what we know and is this part of what we know more important than that part of what we know. And in no place is that a bigger problem than diet. There’s obviously a lot of money to be made from confusion. Some years ago I worked on air for Good Morning America and I saw firsthand that there really is a vested interest in TV and the media propagating constant change. If you say the same thing about diet on air enough times in a row people lose interest in your dietary segments. If you say something different every time it’s always interesting. Tune in tomorrow for a new answer. So the media are in on it. The fad diet authors are in on it. Basically a lot of people who just think that their view of the truth through a particular tunnel is the only truth or in on it. But the result is we squander the opportunity to use what we know because we bog down in debate about what we don’t know quite so well. So having completely lost my patience for the status quo I decided to do something about this. And it’s really challenging now because there was a time not all that long ago when a single voice could rise above the din. Think for example about Dr. Koop when he was Surgeon General. Or Benjamin Spock and the influence that he had on parents raising young children. But that era is gone because we live in the age of the blogosphere and cyberspace and everybody’s got a microphone. And there’s just this incredible amount of static.

Mike Huckabee Wants Special Christian Rights
Mike Huckabee is a big believer in religious freedom, but how far does his commitment to that religious freedom for other religions actually go?
Ana Kasparian (The Point), and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down.
"Huckabee began to discuss Chancellor Jeffrey Atherton, who last week dismissed a divorce complaint in an attempt to prove a dickish point about allowing gays to marry ...
Mika Brzezinski then interrupted Huckabee in an attempt to get him to answer the question. “Would you support a clerk who would not give Kim Davis a third or a fourth marriage license? You?”
Huckabee responded that he wasn’t sure he followed this very simple question. “You’re asking a question of a different nature,” he said. “There’s a difference between a marriage between a man and a woman or a marriage between two men and a marriage between two women...”

Gunmaker Selling Crusade-Friendly Bible AR-15 Rifles
Christian fundamentalists are selling guns with scriptures engraved on them. The Florida gunmaker thinks the scriptures have magical powers that don’t allow the weapons to be used by muslims. Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Florida gun shop is marketing a military-style rifle engraved with a Bible verse and a Knights Templar Long Cross — the symbol of the Christian crusades.
The “Crusader” AR-15 went on sale last week at Spike’s Tactical in Apopka, and a company spokesman said the rifle was intended to be a weapon no devout Muslim would touch, reported the Orlando Sentinel.
The weapon — which is inscribed with Psalm 144:1: “Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle” — was immediately condemned by the Council on American-Islamic Relations.”

Donald Trump On His Religion
Donald Trump was recently discussing his faith, and when he couldn’t name his favorite Bible verse, GOP rival Ben Carson pounced. Trump aggressively defended his “big league” faith.
Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down.
"When conservatives start attacking each other's faith, then you know it's on. In today's GOP, candidates define themselves by their religion so they can court evangelical voters so Ben Carson's attack on Trump's faith is a big deal...
"Probably the biggest thing -- I've realized where my success has come from and I don't in anyway deny my faith in God," Carson said.
He explained what he meant by quoting what he said was one of his favorite bible verses.
"By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life and that's a very big part of who I am. I don't get that impression with him," Carson said of Trump. "Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't get that.”

Why Are You Still Catholic?
A study came out recently all about what Catholics believe compared to what all Americans believe.
I just want to mention two issues in particular.
First is marriage equality. 55% of all Americans said they support gay or lesbian couples getting married.
Now, this is something forbidden by the Church. The Catechism even says "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." The supposedly-great Pope Francis believes that.
And yet the study showed that 60% of Catholics support gay marriage. 60!
The second issue is abortion. 53% of all Americans said it should be legal in all or most cases.
The Catholic Church calls it a "grave offense." It's completely anti-abortion.
But guess what? 51% of Catholics said they support legal abortion in most or all situations.
What the hell?
And how many Catholics out there do you think believe that a consecrated communion wafer is literally a piece of Jesus's body? Or that the Pope knows best? Or that women should never be priests?
So here's my question for those of you out there who call yourselves Catholic but disagree with so many of the Church's positions: Why?!

But that's the Old Testament!
When pointing out potential problems with the Bible, one of the more common responses is, "But that's the OLD Testament". So, what does this mean? What exactly are they saying? Do they really know that they're admitting a problem and then trying to solve it...and failing?

Muslim Flight Attendant Refuses To Serve Alcohol
Charee Stanley is a recent convert to Islam who is a flight attendant for the airline Express Jet. She objects to serving alcohol for religious reasons, which caused her to ultimately lose her job. Stanley is now taking her case to the courts.
Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down.
"A Muslim flight attendant for ExpressJet is fighting to be reinstated after she says the airline suspended her for refusing to serve alcohol.
In a complaint filed last week with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Charee Stanley said the carrier had revoked a reasonable arrangement made to accommodate her religious beliefs.
Stanley's lawyer, Lena Masri of the Council on American-Islamic Relations' Michigan chapter, told The Huffington Post Monday that Stanley approached her superiors in June about how she could avoid serving alcohol to passengers because she recently discovered that Islamic law forbids it.”*

Anti-Gay Marriage Clerk Kim Davis Goes To Jail
Kentucky clerk Kim Davis is going to continue not signing gay marriage certificates, but starting today she will be not signing them in jail.
"Embattled Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis has been ordered to jail by U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning, according to the Herald Leader’s John Cheeves:
Earlier on Thursday, Davis told Fox News contributor Todd Starnes that she was prepared for this outcome. “I’ve weighed the cost and I’m prepared to go to jail, I sure am,” she said. “This has never been a gay or lesbian issue for me. This is about upholding the word of God.””*

John Dehlin, Founder of the Mormon Stories Podcast
John Dehlin just completed his PhD in clinical and counseling psychology. But you may know him best as the founder of the Mormon Stories podcast, one that celebrates the faith and also critiques it when necessary.
Because of some of his views supporting same-sex marriage and the ordination of women within Mormonism, Dehlin was excommunicated from the Church earlier this year for apostasy. That story was covered in the New York Times.
We spoke with John about how discovering the truth about Mormon history pushed him away from the Church, why he still has a soft spot for the faith, and why Mormons have strategic reasons for standing firm against LGBT rights.

How Many Times Has This Defender of Traditional Marriage Been Married?
Kim Davis, the Rowan county clerk who has deemed herself the arbiter of what is right and what's wrong in a marriage has been married four separate times. According to a recent report by U.S. News and world report, her first three marriages all ended in divorce in 1994, 2006, and 2008.
Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss. Should this woman be prosecuted for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Tell us what you think in the comments.

A Kentucky county clerk who opposes same-sex unions for religious reasons again refused to issue marriage licenses to any couples on Tuesday, opening herself to potential fines or jail time after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to consider her petition a day earlier.
In response, a federal judge ordered Kim Davis, the Rowan County clerk, to appear in court Thursday concerning a motion to hold her in contempt of his earlier order that she resume issuing licenses. The judge could impose a range of sanctions, including incarceration.
Ms. Davis also faces possible criminal charges if the state attorney general’s office grants a request to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate her.

Republicans Fire Woman For Not Going To Church
In Kansas, Republicans take their religion very seriously… to the point where they’d like to shred the constitution. They refuse to acknowledge separation of church and state. Now they’ve actually fired a woman, Courtney Canfield, for not going to church. Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"An employee of the Kansas’ Republican Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s office says she was fired from her job for not belonging to or attending a church.
According to the Topeka Capital-Journal, Courtney Canfield of Topeka filed suit against the secretary of state’s office naming her supervisor Eric Rucker as defendant.

What would Darwin say to today’s creationists?
Eugenie Scott presents the British Humanist Association's 2015 Darwin Day Lecture to an audience of over 1,000 people in central London. As ever, the Darwin Day Lecture is chaired by Richard Dawkins, a Patron of the BHA.
Skip 6 minuts for Richard Dawkins
Eugenie Scott focuses her lecture on creationist objections to Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection, systematically showing in each case where these were based on misunderstandings of science, wishful thinking, or attempts to deceive.

What TV Preachers Really Do With Your Money
John Oliver raised awareness on an issue that we already knew about but we didn’t understand the severity of. Televangelists are ripping people off and they are getting away with it. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.
Watch the John Oliver video Televangelists (HBO)
"On his award-worthy HBO program Last Week Tonight, John Oliver revels in exposing hypocrisy, from the compromised snake oil salesman Dr. Oz to “thin-skinned” megalomaniac Donald Trump. Sunday night’s edition saw the intrepid British satirist target America’s shady fraternity of televangelists bleeding their brainwashed acolytes dry.
“This is about the churches that exploit people’s faith for monetary gain,” Oliver announced.
Yes, in 2015, televangelism is still thriving in America. Back in March, The Daily Beast reported on Creflo Dollar, a pastor who’d thoroughly convinced his loyal congregation that God wanted him to own a $65 million private jet, and wanted them to foot the bill."

Ehrman Licona Debate - Prove Jesus Rose from Dead
Bart Ehrman flew to Kansas City, Missouri where he debated Christian apologist Mike R. Licona on the topic, "Can Historians Prove that Jesus Rose from the Dead." Is there historical evidence that Jesus rose from the dead? The event took place on February 28, 2008 at 7 p.m. held at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. R. Philip Roberts, the seminary's president and the debate's moderator commented previous of the event, "We are thrilled to have both Bart D. Ehrman and Mike R. Licona on campus addressing the questions many people ask these days. Apologetics, the science of defending the Christian faith, are very important. Our culture is looking for an answer. This is a wonderful opportunity for the Christian community and others to learn if the claims of Christ are defensible."
The debate is discussed in the book "Come Let Us Reason: New Essays in Christian Apologetics" edited by Paul Copan, William Lane Craig. Chapter 9 is written by Michael Licona, which reviews this debate extensively from his perspective.
Program discussed on Bart Ehrman's Foundation Blog: http://ehrmanblog.org/?p=9029

Teacher Punishes 7 Year Old For Not Believing In God
A lawsuit recently filed against a teacher at Forest Park Elementary School in Indiana alleged that a 7-year-old student was “banished” from sitting with other students at lunch after he revealed that he did not believe in God.
According to the lawsuit obtained by The Washington Post, second grade teacher Michelle Myer interrogated the student, who was identified with the initials A.B., about his religious beliefs after he told his classmates on the playground that he did not go to church because he did not believe in God.
As a result, the child was ordered to sit by himself during lunch for a three-day period.

Chris Christie: I Used Birth Control In Spite Of Church Teachings
Chris Christy was recently at a campaign stop, talking about how well he mixes his religious and political beliefs. He explained why he wasn’t against birth control. John Iadarola (Think Tank) and Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show Podcast), hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican presidential candidate, on Tuesday confessed that there’s one aspect of his Catholic faith where he hasn’t always followed the church.
"I'm a Catholic, but I've used birth control, and not just the rhythm method, OK?" Christie said at a restaurant in New Hampshire, as a man in front of him put his hand over his forehead.

Rubio Wants Abortion Banned With No "Life Of The Mother” Exceptions
There’s some disagreement on how Marco Rubio did in last night’s debate. He appeared to backpedal when Megyn Kelly asked him about his position on abortion bans in cases where the mother’s life is in danger. John Iadarola (Think Tank), Ben Mankiewicz (Turner Classic Movies), and Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show Podcast), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down on tonight’s TYT Power Panel. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Florida Sen. Marco Rubio argued with Fox News debate moderator Megyn Kelly Thursday on his record on abortions, claiming he does not actually support exceptions to an abortion ban in cases of rape or incest...
“If you believe that life begins at conception, which you do, how do you justify ending a life just because it begins violently through no fault of the baby?” Kelly asked Rubio during the debate.
Rubio responded by saying he’s not sure Kelly had a “correct assessment of my record.” When pressed on whether or not he favors the exceptions, he said he has never supported or advocated for them.”
