Why we must combat blasphemy laws
Michael Nugent, chairperson of Atheist Ireland, speaking at the 2012 European Atheist Conference in Cologne, Germany, organized by IBKA and Atheist Alliance International.
Michael Nugent argues that to campaign against blasphemy laws is central to the campaign for secularism; that blasphemy laws are silly in western democracies and dangerous in Islamic states; and that western states should not placate attempts to silence freedom of expression.
Michael Nugent outlines current examples of blasphemy and apostasy cases that people should campaign on; outlines the history of how blasphemy laws evolved; and describes the battle about blasphemy laws at the United Nations between Islamic states and western democracies.

The year 2008 marked the last of God’s warnings to mankind and the beginning in a countdown of the final three and one-half years of man’s self-rule that will end by May 27, 2012.
On December 14, 2008, the First Trumpet of the Seventh Seal of the Book of Revelation sounded, which announced the beginning collapse of the economy of the United States and great destruction that will follow. The next three trumpets will result in the total collapse of the United States, and once the Fifth Trumpet sounds the world will be thrust into WW III.

Adolf Hitler 2012
Was Adolf Hitler really a Christian? Well, people are capable of horrific things, regardless of their beliefs. It is their beliefs, however, that can be manipulated to facilitate such horrors.
Adolf Hitler, Berlin speech October 24, 1933
Please keep in mind that I'm taking comedic license. Hitler's contrivances regarding religion, like today, are just accepted burdens of public office, and not necessarily so overtly planned as this cartoon implies. The point is that whether he was a Christian or not, the people who were actually doing the killing for him were mostly Christian. So, refrain from blaming the FĆ¼hrer's atheism (he was a strong believer in the supernatural, btw, so he was likely not an atheist at all). Should you think of examples like communist forces composed of mostly atheists (though how you would know they were truly nonbelievers is beyond me and seems contrary to our disposition to believe in a god), I'm sure you will now agree that it is a human problem - and not one of "which worldview leads to death and destruction".
We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement...

Religious are less Compassionate
New scientific research suggests that atheists are more driven by compassion to be generous than people who have strongly-held religious beliefs.
Published in the Social Psychological and Personality Science journal, the study consisted of three separate experiments, each looking for pro-social sentiments in the subjects:
In the first experiment, 1,300 American adults' responses to a 2004 national survey were analysed to see if there was a relationship between compassion and religiosity. Statements like 'when I see someone being taken advantage of, I feel kind of protective towards them' were used to establish this link. When compared with the subjects' responses to questions about how strongly religious they were, the results were revealing. Non-religious people had higher scores showing that they were more inclined to show generosity in random acts of kindness, such as lending their possessions and offering a seat on a crowded bus or train. Religious people also had lower scores when it came to seeing how much compassion motivated participants to be charitable in other ways, such as in giving money or food to a homeless person and to non-believers.
* Non-Believers Giving Aid
* Clean water
* Project Seahorse
In the second experiment, 101 American adults watched one of two short videos: one was a neutral video and the other one was a heartrending video that showed images of poverty-stricken children. The subjects were then each given $10 and directed to give any amount they wished to a stranger. Again, the less religious subjects scored highest in the compassion stakes, since they seemed to be motivated by the emotionally-charged video to give more of their money to the stranger in question. Professor Robb Willer said, to quote: 'The compassion-inducing video had a big effect on their [the less religious people's] generosity, but it did not significantly change the generosity of more religious participants.'
In the third experiment , over 200 college students were asked to state how compassionate they felt at that moment, before playing 'economic trust games', where they were given money which they could choose to share, or not to share, with a stranger. They were told that another person playing the game had given a portion of their money to them, and they were free to reward them by giving back some of the money, which had since been doubled in amount. The religious subjects were less likely than the non-religious ones to show compassion, being more resistant to share their winnings with strangers.
These 3 experiments suggest that the pro-sociality of less religious individuals is driven to a greater extent by levels of compassion than is the pro-sociality of the more religious.
The study looked at the link between religion, compassion and generosity. It did not, however, look at the reasons why highly-religious people are less motivated by compassion to help others.
The researchers stated, however, that deeply-religious people might be more strongly guided by a sense of moral obligation than non-religious people.

Is the Internet Dangerous?
On May 20th, 2012, there is a rally being planned that will take place at CitiField in Queens, NY. It is being organized by a group of Haredi (Ultra Orthodox) Jews. The object of the rally is the dangers of the internet.
Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald shares his opinion on the topic pointing out that the internet is not unique. There are many things in life the some consider dangerous. Judaism tries to teach each person how to be in control of their passions and lusts. As human beings we are subject to temptations. There are two ways to deal with this. One is to avoid it completely. Isolate yourself.
Rabbi Buchwald believes that that is not a viable way of life. At some point you'll likely need to confront those influences in your life. When you have never come across these urges in life you cannot develop defenses against them. When exposed to it a little bit they have no way of resisting the temptation. The other option is education. Teaching people about these dangers and have them confront them on a regular basis. But nothing is foolprooof.
People should put protections on our computers especially for children just like we should put protections on our own passions to protect ourselves. So whether or not you agree with the goal of this upcoming rally and the dangers of the internet, we need to at least be aware of it. We need to deal with it in an intelligent, meaningful and effective fashion.

The Obscenity of Christianity
Love thy neighbor as thy self, unless hes a Moabite or some thing, in which case feel free to slaughter them man, woman child and ox.
Yup the bible at times reads like the end of The Unforgiven. ' Any man I see out there, I'm gonna shoot him. Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only gonna kill him, but I'm gonna kill his wife, all his friends, and burn his damn house down.'
with William Lane Craig
Now compare to Joshua 6:21
And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
The really obscene thing though is religion can make a sane man stand up in the front of an auditorium at Oxford University and justify the slaughter of children. I am still stunned that they just sat there while he calmly went through and explained why killing children as 'spoils of war' was actually a supremely moral act, and a joyous occasion for all involved in that this was the day that these children were to be blessed with the ultimate gift of having their earthly phase of life being terminated. Just to put this into a modern context, if any of these slaughters for 'God' had been performed using gas chambers, would there still be lines of christian queuing up to justify this by the infinite blessing the children received?

Lying for Jesus!
So I'm going over this video and I'm accused of deliberately omitting the dates to mislead people on Craigs publication record. Not only did that seem peculiar, the video had clearly been edited.
Yup, the William lane Craig supporter (thecartesiantheist) actually edited the dates out of the video then accused me of dishonestly omitting this.

This is so dishonest it beggar belief! Really REALLY beggar belief. The original video shows that I was completely honest. So he had to edit the video to take out all the honest information such that he could accuse me of omitting it.
Indeed I really wouldn't have noticed had I not interacted with him recently where he showed a comparable level on integrity. He made a video addressing DPR criticism of William Lane Craig. I suggested he turn up on the MSS to address those points. He messed me around, he wanted a one on one 'formal debate' (yeah this guy uses the word formal as much as nephilimfree), he wanted me to debate him now in the comments. I just gave up and left the comment
'meh, the offer was made to give you the forum you have been repeatedly requesting. You elected to decline. That is all.'
It turns out that despite this CLEAR message, he turns up to the show anyways, vocally claiming we had agreed to have him on. Even more ironically, because he was so late to the show (about an hour late), he spent all of his time in waiting room 3 and no one was even aware that he was there.
He has since been going around spinning this story in a not dissimilar way to the above video, that we had agreed to have him on (not true), that we knew he was there (not true) and that we were cowards etc etc. The moral of the story is clear, if you are going to eat tuna, expect bones, and if you are going to deal with a apologist, expect dishonest!
