Stephen Fry on the Catholic Church

Stephen Fry concedes that his opposition to the motion is a deeply personal and emotional one. He criticises the Catholic Church not only for the horrors it has perpetrated in the past, but also for its ideology, and for its sinister temerity to preach that there is no salvation outside of the Church. With two words he refutes Anne Widdecombes suggestion that the Catholic Church does not have the powers of a nation state: The Vatican.

As a homosexual, Fry reflects how bizarre it is to be accused of being immoral and a pervert by an institution that has persistently hushed up the rape and abuse of children under its care, and whose leading members, abstentious nuns and priests, all share an attitude towards sex that is utterly unnatural and dysfunctional. He concludes by questioning whether Jesus, as a humble Jewish carpenter, would have approved of all the pomp and excess of the Catholic Church, and whether he would even have been accepted by such an arrogant organisation.

In the event Fry...and the writer...are NOT aware of the fact, the Catholic Church is NOT the only one in existence nor is it representative of Christian beliefs which are founded in Biblical scripture...not the whims of a man in Rome who wears red, white & saffron. It's not the "Church" Fry should be worried about. It's his own salvation & eternal soul. It's not the Church who decides what's right & wrong. They have their own version...one that does not always jibe with the Bible. In fact, they have purposefully altered their Bibles to adhere to their version of things...such as the Ten Commandments. They dropped the second one & split the 10th into two so they still have 10. The second having to do with idolatry...and what does every single Catholic establishment have in abundance? Idols. They're EVERYWHERE. They bow & worship them, clearly violating the REAL second Commandment. It's not the Catholics & their skewed beliefs that Fry or any other proud sinner should be concerned with...it's God Himself since HE's the one who decides right & wrong. And He's the one we all will have to answer to eventually. Don't believe me? That's between you & Him. You'll find out one day whether you like it or not. I'd get right with Him before then, if I were you or Fry. Yes, religion IS man made...but true faith in Jesus isn't religion.
