I just found Micki Krimmel website Mickipedia. In this video Micki has several good points. Please watch. listen and think. You to can become an atheist (and it is free)
Hi again! I decided to reply again somewhere fresh and also check out what you posted. You've been busy recently! Well, on to the comment.
I've never really heard atheism defined in this way before. I think it's good to question and have self reflection, but I think there's a danger to becoming cynical. Most of the atheists I have met are cynics and have displayed bigoted mindsets, though not all of them such as my grandfather. In fact, if atheism is mostly defined as this woman defines it, than many of my Christian friends would be atheists too. Of course, they aren't. What I mean is that they don't check their brain at the door when it comes to faith. Most of them had profound experiences that brought them to faith in the God of the Bible.
I asked about your experience with God because I believe in him and I think that God will meet anyone who's interested to find out about him. However, I understand your bad experience as a kid certainly colors your thoughts about who God is. The church can often do a terrible job of representing Jesus. I grew up in the church and didn't really understand what I believed until junior high when I began to think about things the church never really talked about. There were also mysteries to the world such as the paranormal. In 2004, I began an intensive pursuit of understanding God and life in general.
What I believe is that faith does not, and should not trump reason, but that reason gives substance to faith. I have a saying that if you just pursue truth you'll find yourself pursuing God. When you pursue God, you find he was pursuing you. You may be abhored by the thought of the God of the Bible pursuing you, but I don't think many people really understand him. I think humility is important to understanding God, but integrity works just as well (since it's almost the same thing). The thing humility shows us is his status as God and our status of needing reconciliation with him. I hate religion and so does God, but relationship is what he wants. Of the many reasons I believe in God, one is that I would literally be an orphan if it wasn't for him. I've had too many encounters with him to deny his existence, and he always comes after me even in the times I don't seek him. I'm not here to defend God, I think he can defend himeself, but I know that there have been things I never would have thought about if someone else had not given me a different perspective. As a Christian, I want to apologize for the bad examples you have seen of the church, but I want you to know that there's a lot more going on out in the world where God is evident and active.
Anyways, I admire anyone who seeks truth honestly and I appreciate your curtious replies. I always enjoy thoughtful conversations with people and it challenges how I think of things. Sorry this reply is so long and thanks for reading!
