Gun Massacre Forces Change in Australia, Why Not in the U.S.?

"Gun-control advocates in the U.S. are hoping 2012 marks a turning point in the country's struggle with gun violence. The massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary — where most of the 26 victims were killed with an assault rifle similar to the M-16 rifle issued to U.S. soldiers — might spur Washington lawmakers into action following a year of grisly, tragic mass shootings. There are now calls to reinstate a federal ban on assault weapons; the weeks ahead may see a heated debate over the long-enshrined place of guns in American society."*



Americans were told not to react with change after the deadly mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. But that's not have Australia acted after a gun massacre; they took action with bans and tighter licensing, and as a result, have far fewer gun homicide deaths. Cenk Uygur breaks it down

Son Beat To Death For His "Sins" Christianity

A couple in New York is facing manslaughter charges for allegedly beating there teenage son to death during a church ceremony. The couple got together with some other church members and beat the boy and his brother to rid them of their sins. Lucas, 17, did not survive.



“Two teenage brothers were brutally beaten in church – one of them fatally – in an effort by their parents, sister and other members of the congregation to force them to confess their sins and seek forgiveness, police said on Wednesday.

Police chief Michael Inserra said investigators are still looking into what the supposed sins were.

Lucas and Christopher Leonard, 19 and 17, were pounded with fists on Sunday at the Word of Life church when a “counseling session” meant to explore their spiritual state turned violent, Inserra said. They were beaten in the abdomen, genitals, back and thighs, authorities said.

Lucas died and his brother was hospitalized in serious condition. Six church members – including the brothers’ parents and sister – have been arrested.”
