The Young Turks are Morons of the Highest Calibre

The Young Turks are morons of the highest calibre who believe it would be a crime not to publish every thought that tumbles through their head.

They posted a video titled ‘Monsanto Giving People Cancer?’ (because protecting yourself from a lawsuit with that question mark, despite in the video saying their products are giving people cancer, shows how much of a backbone you have) where the Turks stumbled their way through a CNN blog post by vomiting out the text practically verbatim the whole time with an undeserved grin of unwarranted self-satisfaction as they say that people like me who see the potential of GMOs are either paid trolls by Monsanto or gullible fools who have been taken in by the evil corporation.

Atheists On Religion, Science, and Morality (The Point)

Can we prove there is no God? Does it make sense to equate religion with science? Do theists have a monopology on morality or is secular morality superior? Was Richard Dawkins right to bring up the religious beliefs of Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney?

Cara Santa Maria (Senior Science Correspondent, Huffingtonpost.com) leads this week's panel on 'The Point' to discuss these issues and more with Michael Shermer (Publisher - Skeptic Magazine), Sean Carroll (Theoretical Physicist - Caltech), and Edward Falzon (author of 'Being Gay Is Disgusting'). Special thanks to James Randi (Founder: James Randi Educational Foundation), Paul Zachary "PZ" Myers (Blogger: Pharyngula.org - Professor U Of MN-Morris), and AJ Johnson (Development Director for 'American Atheists') for sending in their points.

Rapper/Flat-Earther B.o.B. Beefing With Neil deGrasse Tyson

Atlanta rapper B.o.B. sent out a series of tweets claiming that he does not believe the earth is round. He thinks it’s flat. He doesn’t appear to be trolling.

Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down.

"Yes, there are still people who believe the Earth is flat. One of those people might be B.o.B.

The Atlanta rapper took to Twitter and posted a photo with a pretty deep inquiry about how the distance between two cities were 16 miles apart, so he asked: “where is the curve?”

Relying on his savvy followers, they shared their own explanations to Bobby Ray's question. Some sound logical, others sound pretty troll-y. Even famed scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson is going in on Bobby Ray.”*

Oops! Cops “Accidentally" Kill Two More Black People

Police officials admit to shooting two innocent individuals accidentally. 19 year old Quintonio Legrier and 55 year old Bettie Jones were shot by police in two separate incidents.

Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

“Already rocked by protests over a string of officer-involved shootings, the Chicago Police Department is offering ‘condolences’ for two more victims: a student and a grandma.
He was a promising engineering student who grew up in foster care and was determined to make something of himself. She was a mother of five who loved church and dancing, and had just hosted her family Christmas.

In the early hours of Dec. 26, both were killed by Chicago cops responding to a 911 call over the student—a heartbreaking incident that comes weeks after the U.S. Department of Justice announced an investigation into the Chicago Police Department’s use of excessive force against minorities.

Authorities confirmed a Chicago police officer “accidentally” shot Bettie Jones, 55, as she answered the door for police, who had arrived after her neighbor Antonio LeGrier, the father of 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier, reported a domestic disturbance.”

Viral Video Proves People Don’t Know The Bible From The Qur’an

A Dutch YouTube group called "Dit Is Normaal” performed an experiment where they read horrible quotes from The Bible, to people on the street, pretending that the quotes came from the Qur’an. People had some interesting reactions.

Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discus.

“Dutch YouTubers Dit Is Normaal have carried out a social experiment that’s been viewed over 2 million times on YouTube.

They pointed out that since recent terrorist events, the religion of Islam has been under scrutiny.

Over the weekend, for example, the hashtag #YouAintNoMuslimBruv trended in the UK after footage of a stabbing incident in east London went viral.

Dit Is Normaal wanted to see what people would make of some of the Bible’s most extreme points of view if they were presented as Islamic

Marco Rubio: Paris Attacks Were God’s Plan

You might have forgotten, but Marco Rubio is running for the presidency. He was asked recently at a rally, “Why does God allow terrible things to happen?”

--

"Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio thinks the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the recent massacre in Paris were part of God’s plan.

Speaking at a campaign rally last Monday in Iowa, the Florida senator said Christians should never be afraid because God was in control of the universe, the Christian Post reported.

“We are biblically ordered not to be afraid,” Rubio said. “You know why? Because God is telling us that no matter what happens, ‘It is part of my plan. I will give you the strength to endure it whether you like it or not.'”

Rubio noted that he had previously been asked why God would allow terrorist attacks to happen.”

Andrea Tantaros: Liberals Indicting Entire Religion… Christian White Republicans

In the wake of the Planned Parenthood terrorist attack, there was another sort of concern that Fox hosts raised. Some thought the left was too quick to jump to conclusions about the man shooting up a Planned Parenthood.

Ana Kasparian (The Point) and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down.

"Fox News host Andrea Tantaros blasted liberals on Monday for “indicting an entire religion” of “Christian white Republicans” following last week’s domestic terror attacks on a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado.

“I think this was pretty predictable,” Tantaros said. “You saw on Twitter a lot of people rushing to judgement. The same people who hesitate using the phrase Islamic terrorism were very quick to use the term ‘Christian’.”..

Fox News contributor Rachel Campos-Duffy argued that liberals were trying to tie the attacks to the anti-abortion movement as a plot to derail upcoming congressional hearings on Planned Parenthood.

“They are deeply embarrassed about these videos,” she insisted. “It pulled the curtain on what really happens in the back rooms of those abortion clinics. And that’s what this is about, they want to muzzle us.”

Tantaros added that “the left” wanted to stop all talk about “the illegal harvesting of baby parts on the off chance that some lunatic out there might hear that rhetoric and decide to go shoot up a clinic.””*

Pastor’s Wife Approves Husband Marrying Teenager

Thom Miller from Ohio used to work for the mob, but then became a born again Christian. At 60 he is now a pastor, and he has interpreted Christianity in a way that allows him to have more than one wife. With his first wife’s consent he has now married a 19 year old woman and impregnated her.

“A 60-year-old Ohio mob enforcer-turned-pastor married his teenage bride and got her pregnant, all with the blessing of the other lady in his life — his 44-year-old wife.

“The whole situation works for all three of us,” Thom Miller told Barcroft Media. “I am the only one who is allowed to have more than one partner — and both of my wives understand and appreciate that.”

Miller is now building a bigger home so he can split his time between his two ladies, whom he calls sister wives.

And he believes their polygamous lifestyle is strengthening family ties.

“It means they always have a friend with them.”

Bookstore Repeatedly Vandalized For Name

A book store in Denver is catching a lot of flack because it’s name is now associated with a terrorist group. ISIS Books & Gifts has been around since the 1980s and was named after the Egyptian goddess. But now people are vandalizing the store because they believe the owners support Islamic extremists.

Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

“A Denver-area store called Isis Books & Gifts wants the world to know its name comes from the Egyptian goddess of healing and motherhood and it isn't run by terrorists.

Co-owner Jeff Harrison said Wednesday that the suburban Denver shop has been vandalized five times in the past year or so, probably by people who mistake the name for ISIS, one of the acronyms for the Islamic State terrorist group.

The latest vandalism came last weekend when a store sign was smashed after the terrorist attacks in Paris that killed 129 people.”

Son Beat To Death For His "Sins" Christianity

A couple in New York is facing manslaughter charges for allegedly beating there teenage son to death during a church ceremony. The couple got together with some other church members and beat the boy and his brother to rid them of their sins. Lucas, 17, did not survive.

“Two teenage brothers were brutally beaten in church – one of them fatally – in an effort by their parents, sister and other members of the congregation to force them to confess their sins and seek forgiveness, police said on Wednesday.

Police chief Michael Inserra said investigators are still looking into what the supposed sins were.

Lucas and Christopher Leonard, 19 and 17, were pounded with fists on Sunday at the Word of Life church when a “counseling session” meant to explore their spiritual state turned violent, Inserra said. They were beaten in the abdomen, genitals, back and thighs, authorities said.

Lucas died and his brother was hospitalized in serious condition. Six church members – including the brothers’ parents and sister – have been arrested.”

Alternative Medicine Advocates Overdose On Psychotropic Drug

"A group of 29 homeopaths at a conference in Handeloh outside Hamburg, Germany had to be hospitalized after a mass overdose of the designer drug 2C-E. It isn’t clear how the group ended up ingesting the banned substance rather than a homeopathic remedy.

The psychotropic substance, which has been illegal in Germany since last year, is reputed to combine the euphoria of ecstasy, or MDMA, with the hallucinatory experiences of LSD. The effect is highly dose-dependent, however, and the 29 practitioners of alternative medicine participating in the conference, aged 24 to 56, were found “staggering around, rolling in a meadow, talking gibberish and suffering severe cramps” outside the conference hall, broadcaster NDR reported.

More than 150 emergency staff quickly arrived on the scene to administer sedatives and take blood tests. None of the victims reportedly suffered lasting physical damage"*

Kim Davis: I’m Not A Hypocrite, God Forgave Me

Kim Davis has granted an interview with ABC News, and during the interview she was very open about the terrible things she’s gone through because she’s a Christian. The interviewer points out that many call her a hypocrite because of her four marriages and adulterous relationships. She says she’s not a hypocrite because she’s forgiven and “washed clean.” Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

“I have friends who are gay and lesbians. They know where I stand,” Davis said. “And we don’t agree on this issue and we’re okay because we respect each other.”

“So you would deny your friends who are in gay relationships, you would deny them a marriage license as well?” asked ABC’s Paula Faris.”

Does Chick-fil-A Ban Violate Religious Freedom?

“Chick-fil-A is having some issues getting approval for a new location in Denver, and it's all because of the restaurant chain's anti-gay past.

City council members have halted the approval of a Chick-fil-A location at Denver International Airport as they debate whether or not the franchise should get a seven-year deal, according to the Denver Post. Chick-fil-A was "the second-most sought-after quick service brand at the airport, second to Chipotle," according to a 2013 survey of airport goers.

But council members voiced concerns over president Dan Cathy's views on gay marriage. When asked in 2012 whether he believed in the “Biblical definition of a family unit,” president Dan Cathy replied "guilty as charged."

Mike Huckabee Wants Special Christian Rights

Mike Huckabee is a big believer in religious freedom, but how far does his commitment to that religious freedom for other religions actually go?

Ana Kasparian (The Point), and John Iadarola (Think Tank), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down.

"Huckabee began to discuss Chancellor Jeffrey Atherton, who last week dismissed a divorce complaint in an attempt to prove a dickish point about allowing gays to marry ...

Mika Brzezinski then interrupted Huckabee in an attempt to get him to answer the question. “Would you support a clerk who would not give Kim Davis a third or a fourth marriage license? You?”

Huckabee responded that he wasn’t sure he followed this very simple question. “You’re asking a question of a different nature,” he said. “There’s a difference between a marriage between a man and a woman or a marriage between two men and a marriage between two women...”

What TV Preachers Really Do With Your Money

John Oliver raised awareness on an issue that we already knew about but we didn’t understand the severity of. Televangelists are ripping people off and they are getting away with it. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

Watch the John Oliver video Televangelists (HBO)

"On his award-worthy HBO program Last Week Tonight, John Oliver revels in exposing hypocrisy, from the compromised snake oil salesman Dr. Oz to “thin-skinned” megalomaniac Donald Trump. Sunday night’s edition saw the intrepid British satirist target America’s shady fraternity of televangelists bleeding their brainwashed acolytes dry.

“This is about the churches that exploit people’s faith for monetary gain,” Oliver announced.

Yes, in 2015, televangelism is still thriving in America. Back in March, The Daily Beast reported on Creflo Dollar, a pastor who’d thoroughly convinced his loyal congregation that God wanted him to own a $65 million private jet, and wanted them to foot the bill."
