Why does anyone believe the Bible?

AronRa: I only had a half hour to speak and they started me off late, so I ran way over. That was awkward. In retrospect, I think I was giving two different 20 minute talks that day. Plus it is obvious that I ride a motorcycle over thirty miles a day in the Texas sun, because I have an obvious tan line from my bandana. Must do something about that next time.

Correcting Ken Ham and his Facebook following

AronRa was addressing comments posted by Ken Ham of answersingenesis. Ken Ham not only ridiculed AronRa's wife for her accurate explanation of human taxonomy, but he also denied the scientific consensus that 'wisdom' teeth are evidence of evolution or vestiges of ape ancestry.

Answering answers in Genesis: Why wisdom teeth are vestigial evidence that Ken Ham is an ape. This was AronRa's presentation to the Dallas Fellowship of Freethought on 2013/06/16.

How Religion Harms Education

Atheist Ireland gave me the title of the topic they wanted me to talk about, because this is as important an issue for them as it is for me back home in Texas. This is largely because they have no separation of church and state, and every school is a religious school.

Unholy Trinity Down Under: "Biblical Absurdity"

In March of 2015, the Atheist Foundation of Australia hosted atheist activists Matt Dillahunty, Aron Ra and Seth Andrews (under the tongue-in-cheek tour title, "The Unholy Trinity Down Under").

The speakers' presentations from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne are posted on AFA's tour website: http://www.unholytrinitydownunder.com

The Ra Men podcast - Atheist Activists in Australia - with A Skegg

This week I'm on location in Melbourne Australia, 10,000 miles away from my American co-host, Mark Nebo. We're talking with Michael Boyd and Danny Jarman, (president and vice-president of the AFA) and also with Andrew Skegg, a representative of the AFA who has been directing the Unholy Trinity Down Under tour.

Give the Devil His Due

I said that this presentation at SkeptOKon was "in honor of the Dakhma of Angra Mainyu", an Ahrimanic (Satanic) church who's devotees actually believe in a literal devil. However, they're involved in one or two court cases of interest to secularists like myself. At the time of this presentation, I didn't realize I was actually praising the efforts of two separate groups. So there need be some clarification. The devil worshippers successfully sued for the right to hold their black mass in the Oklahoma City Civic Center. They also backed The Satanic Temple, (a non-theist group with no affiliation) in a separate suit over placement of a monument to the Ten Commandments. The Satanic Temple is trying to erect a statue of Baphomet right next to it. Who would have guessed that two different Satanic organizations would have challenged the state in the same courthouse at the same time?

Did Moses Exist? with D.M. Murdock

Previously I have interviewed Frank Zindler, Richard Carrier, David Fitzgerald, and Robert Price, all of whom are 'mythicists'; they don't think there was ever anyone alive whom we could recognize as either Jesus or Moses.

Of the lot of them, I would have thought that Price was the foremost expert, but he referred me to D.M Murdock, also known as Acharya S, author of 'Did Moses Exist? The Myth of the Israelite Lawgiver'.

Racial Darwinism

This is a promotion for Darwin Day, addressing one of the most common criticisms of evolution; that Darwin was a racist, that 'Darwinism' is about "favored races", and that Hitler was a Darwinist.

Regarding Ken Ham's comment about the genocide of Australian aborigines and the desecration of 10,000 aboriginal graves "all in the name of evolution", he said that was all part of Australian history, but I found no justification for that claim.

Tonight the Ra-Men will be talking to a concerned parent who sued an elementary school in Louisiana - because the teacher berated and humiliated his son before the whole class, for not being Christian.

Ra-Men special - Slightly Irreverent Bible Study - with David Fitzgerald

When I testified before the Texas State Board of Education, I had to point out to the board that Moses was not a confirmed historical person. The sad majority of this state unquestioning believe everything the Bible says. So it was very refreshing to me when we got a visit from David Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald holds a degree in history; he's been actively researching the historicity of Jesus for over ten years, and was an associate member of the Committee for the Scientific Examination of Religion. So his perspective is completely opposite that of most of Texans -simply because he knows what he's talking about, because he took the time to study the background of the Bible. I really enjoyed this conversation.
