As the Human Fertilisation and Embryo Bill continues its way through Parliament, David Modell follows some of the leading members of Christian pressure groups as they attempt to win converts and convince MPs to base laws on Biblical beliefs.

Hard-line Christian activists are now mobilising believers in an attempt to make an impact on society nationally. Followers believe abortion and homosexuality should be illegal, there should be no sex before marriage and that the law of blasphemy should be strictly enforced.

They say the Bible is the definitive word of God and is literally true and are intolerant of other faiths. The film follows well funded and politically active Christian groups and shows them emerging as a significant voice in British politics.

Churches Named Most Segregated Place in U.S.

“Sunday morning is the most segregated hour of Christian America.”

That declaration, which has been attributed to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., used to startle listeners. Now it’s virtually become a cliché. For years, various academic studies and news articles have reported what many churchgoers already know: most American congregations are segregated.

In the latest issue of the academic journal Sociological Inquiry, two professors dug deeper into why Sundays remain so segregated.

The article, “Race, Diversity, and Membership Duration in Religious Congregations,’ said that nine out of ten congregations in the U.S. are segregated - a single racial groups accounts for more than 80 percent of their membership.

What Happened Before the Big Bang?

They are the biggest questions that science can possibly ask: where did everything in our universe come from? How did it all begin? For nearly a hundred years, we thought we had the answer: a big bang some 14 billion years ago.

But now some scientists believe that was not really the beginning. Our universe may have had a life before this violent moment of creation.

Horizon takes the ultimate trip into the unknown, to explore a dizzying world of cosmic bounces, rips and multiple universes, and finds out what happened before the big bang.

Larry King: "Its called a theory though!"
Once again. Larry King is stupid. Take him of the air.

In scientific terms, "theory" does not mean a guess, or hunch, or hypothesis. A theory does not change into a scientific law with the accumulation of new or better evidence. A theory will always be a theory, a law will always be a law. A theory will never become a law, and a law never was a theory. A theory is a scientific explanation of an observed phenomenon. Unlike laws, theories EXPLAIN why things are the way they are. Theories are what science is for! Evolution is a scientific theory, AND A FACT!

The Tower of Babel animated

This video is based on the Biblical story of the Tower of Babel, found in Genesis 11. All people had only one language, and they decided to build a tower that would reach to the heavens, so that they would not be scattered.

Well, God didn't like this idea, since he had already told everyone to spread across the planet (Genesis 9:1). So he confused their languages so that they could no longer understand each other. Then they finally obeyed what God told them to do in the first place.

Churches Defying IRS Rules and Getting Away With It Too!

Christian churches now endorsing political candidates without fear of losing their tax exemptions. Here comes the theocracy!

Story from News 9:

EDMOND, Oklahoma -- In 2008, pastors created "Pulpit Freedom Sunday," a movement created to try and an erase a law that prevents pastors from preaching politics. The participation from pastors over exercising their rights more than doubled this Sunday.

Edmond Pastor Paul Blair was one of over 100 pastors across the country who say they exercised their First Amendment right to endorse political candidates in their sermon Sunday.

The pastors claim a 1954 amendment to the tax code that prohibits such speech is unconstitutional and needs to be challenged.

"The First Amendment is to keep the federal government from coming and telling me what I can and can't preach," said Fairview Baptist Church Pastor Paul Blair. "Pastors have been conned by groups like the Americans United for Separation of Church and State that this is wrong, you aren't suppose to do this."

It's a message Pastor Blair has been delivering for two years now. It's the reason he continues to use his pulpit to endorse candidates.

"On November 2, as this God fearing Oklahoman, as this patriotic American steps into the election booth, I will be casting my ballot for Representative Mary Fallin for governor," Pastor Blair preached during his sermon.

But federal law says Blair shouldn't be using the pulpit for politics and the IRS prohibits religious organizations from endorsing candidates.

"The religious people in our society seem to think there are no boundaries for their role in our society," said Bruce Prescott, a religious talk show host.

The religious radio show host heads the Norman chapter for the Americans United for Separation of Church and State. He fears pastors endorsing candidates will only reflect negatively on the church.

"I don't care who you put in charge. They are fallible human beings. They are not perfect. They are going to do something that doesn't reflect well on Christ," said Prescott.

But Blair hopes more pastors will continue to defy the federal government.

"We need another generation of God fearing, Bible thumping, Patriot pastors. That's why I do what I do," the pastor said.

Pastor Blair said even if the IRS takes away the church's tax exempt status, he won't stop endorsing candidates. He also sent the IRS a DVD of his endorsement of John McCain two years ago. The agency took no action against Blair or his church.

C0nc0rdance vs the Discovery Institute on evolution

This is the Q&A session C0nc0rdance had with the Discovery Institute at the recent SMU sponsored event, "4 Nails in Darwin's Coffin". For best results, C0nc0rdance recommend using the interactive transcript.

C0nc0rdance text to this video:
The full high resolution video of the entire event is available at for download. You are free to do with this video, and the other videos of the event, as you wish. Note that some of the downloadable files were too large, and are available as file-spanning .rar archive files.

I apologize for the wordy, too-fast slides that I included. There was a lot of information that needed to be presented to understand why their technical arguments fail on a basic level. You may find that you need to pause the video, or watch it multiple times to get the full effect.

The articles I cited/used:
1. My favorite, it refutes Doug Axe's 2004 JMB paper very clearly (free full text):

2. I borrowed very heavily from Arthur Hunt's analysis of Doug Axe's work on Panda's Thumb:

3. Doug Axe's 2004 JMB paper that he bases most of his argument on:

I recorded the Q&A session with my Android phone in my pocket. Audio quality is a bit low, and you'll hear the creak of people's chairs as they got up to leave. Everyone was a bit tired of listening to these clowns.
