You Can't Trust Science!

"Science has an agenda! It's unreliable! It's ignorant!" Ever heard a religious person say those things? Then you'll love this video.

Tim Minchin - Pope Song

Tim Minchin tribute to Pope Benedict XVI in time for his state visit to the UK. Aanimated by Fraser Davidson it.

Here are the lyrics:

Fuck the motherfucker, fuck the motherfucker,
Fuck the motherfucker hes a fucking motherfucker.
Fuck the motherfucker, fuck the fucking fucker,
Fuck the motherfucker hes a total fucking fucker
Fuck the motherfucker, fuck the motherfucker,
Fuck the mother fucker, fuck him, fuck the motherfucker.
Fuck the motherfucker, fuck the motherfucking pope.

Fuck the motherfucker, and fuck you motherfucker
If you think that motherfucker is sacred.
If you cover for another motherfucker whos a kiddy-fucker,
Fuck you, youre no better than the motherfucking rapist.
And if you dont like the swearing that this motherfucker forced from me
And reckon it shows moral or intellectual paucity
Then fuck you motherfucker, this is language one employs
When one is fucking cross about fuckers fucking boys

I dont give a fuck if calling the pope a motherfucker
Means you unthinkingly brand me an unthinking apostate.
This has nowt to do with other fucking godly motherfuckers
Im not interested right now in fucking scriptural debate.
There are other fucking songs and there are other fucking ways,
Ill be a religious apologist on other fucking days,
But the fact remains if you protect a SINGLE kiddy fucker
Then Pope or Prince or Plumber, youre a fucking mother fucker.

See I dont give a fuck what any other motherfucker
Believes about Jesus and his motherfucking mother.
Ive no problem with the spiritual beliefs of all these fuckers
While those beliefs dont impact on the happiness of others,
But if you build your church on claims of fucking moral authority
And with threats of hell impose it on others in society,
Then you, you motherfuckers, can expect some fucking wrath
When it turns out youve been fucking us in our motherfucking asses.

So fuck the motherfucker, and fuck you motherfucker
If youre still a motherfucking papist.
If he covered for a single motherfucker whos a kiddy-fucker,
Fuck the motherfucker, hes as evil as the rapist.
And if you look into your motherfucking heart and tell me true
If this motherfucking stupid fucking song offended you,
With its filthy fucking language and its fucking direspect,
If it made you feel angry, go ahead and write a letter,
But if you find me more offensive than the fucking possibility
The pope protected priests when they were getting fucking fiddly
Then listen to me motherfucker - this here is a fact,
You are just as morally misguided as that motherfucking,
Power-hungry, self-aggrandized bigot in the stupid fucking hat.

The Pope's denunciation of true Christian was carried across the world as a major news item on July 10-11, 2007.

Because of the consequences of the Pope's decree, and the change of Vatican policy involved, it is necessary to analyze the document and its after effects on true believers. This careful scrutiny of what has happened is evaluated on this DVD by Richard Bennett and Michael de Semlyen; professionally produced and narrated by Brian Haskin.

Brain training: Does it work?

Brain-training computer games are a multimillion pound industry. But this week, a study published in Nature suggests they may not live up to their promise. Neuroscientist Adrian Owen teamed up with the BBC popular science programme 'Bang Goes The Theory' to recruit more than 11,000 volunteers for a massive online experiment. The results demolish the widely held belief that the regular use of brain-training games improves general cognitive function.

National Prayer Day Unconstitutional?

A federal judge in Wisconsin issued a ruling that government observance of National Prayer Day is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb issued the ruling based on a lawsuit filed by the Madison-based Freedom from Religion Foundation, an agnostic and atheist group.

Judge Crabb says that the day violates the separation of church and state. However, Crabb says her ruling doesn't block a prayer day until after all appeals are exhausted. White House officials say president Obama will still observe National Prayer Day which falls on May 6th. We talked to local community members to get their reaction to the ruling.

A quick experiment to show how homeopathy works.

This video explains homeopathy and drinking piss

Crispian Jago correct some of the inaccuracies in the video. Rather than removing or re-filming the video, heres a list of corrections:

1. Crispian Jago keep incorrectly pronouncing succussion as succession. It should be sus-sussion
2. To make the 1C dilution Crispian Jago should have added my 1ml of piss to 99 ml of water, not 100 ml
3. Although Crispian Jago rinsed the pipette after the first succession, Crispian Jago should really have used a clean pipette each time

Other than that, I think its about right, it really is that silly

Vatican Cardinal: Homosexuality To Blame For Abuse Crisis

The Holy See's second-highest prelate after the Pope has blamed homosexuals for the paedophile crisis.

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican's Secretary of State, said that the child rape scandal that is threatening the moral authority of the Roman Catholic Church worldwide is linked to homosexuality and not celibacy among priests.

Other Vatican clerics have sought to deflect criticism from the Catholic hierarchy by blaming the media, and one retired bishop was even reported earlier this week to have blamed the Jews.

Cardinal Bertone made the comments during a news conference on Monday in Chile, where one of the church's highest-profile paedophile cases involves a priest having sex with young girls.

Cardinal Bertone said: "Many psychologists and psychiatrists have demonstrated that there is no relation between celibacy and paedophilia. But many others have demonstrated, I have been told recently, that there is a relation between homosexuality and paedophilia. That is true. That is the problem."

High Speed Explosions

A comparison of the fuel-air flame speeds in butane/air and hydrogen air mixtures.

The mixtures in each case are near stoichiometry.

Hydocarbons-air mixtures are typically what cars run on, just with octane-air rather than butane air. You can run rockets on liquid hydrocarbons/liquid oxygen, indeed the heavy lift section of the saturn V rocket ran on liquids oxygen (LOX) and kerosene (a moderately long chain hydrocarbon). While per unit volume of gasious combustion this actually produces more energy than the hydrogen-air mixture, the nature of that energy (spread over more molecules, with a lower temperature) means that its not a good a propellant as hydrogen-air.

Hydrogen-air mixture have ferocious combustion speeds, over a vast composition range. As the energy of the reaction goes almost exclusively into the water molecules produces (which are very steam), it makes an excellent rocket propellant. Naturally most of the gas in these bottles is the nitrogen that makes up 4/5 of our atmosphere. If it were simply a H2/O2 mixture the explosion would be about 2-3x as big. Rockets run on liquidized fuel. As a rule of thumb, there is about a 1000 fold increase in density on liquefaction.

This is the mixture the shuttle uses, and it uses some 4000 liters of it per second!
That's the equivalent of burning some 4 million of these bottles per second!
